[AZORES-Genealogy] Family Tree DNA Sale reminder

2013-11-27 Thread Cheri Mello
Since Thursday is a holiday in America. now might be a good time to plant a
little seed in some of your relatives' minds about DNA testing.

Other opportunities may arise to plant seeds in our relatives' minds. We
are about 1 month away from Christmas and some of us will be doing some
parties or family get togethers. So keep that in mind as you visit with
family members.

The link to order through the Azores DNA project is here:

[AZORES-Genealogy] Updated Azores GenWeb site

2013-11-27 Thread Cheri Mello
The main Azores GenWeb site is here:
goo.gl/kIkwXQ

The link to the maps which link you to the island and the online records is
here:
http://goo.gl/ys10qV

Kathy Cardoza, the web guru of the Azores GenWeb spent over 8 hours
redesigning the pages that contain the links to the CCA and the
NEPS/CITCEM/Minho web sites. They now contain the years, the council, and
updated links. The links to the CCA site do NOT land you on the the
freguesia page. You have to pick your island, council and freguesia from
the drop down once you land on the CCA page. It's just the way that the
CCA site works. So you need to make a note of which council your freguesia
is in, or you will do a lot of clicking back and forth.

There are a couple of blanks on a couple of the pages (Kathy doesn't have
ancestors for those islands). I've sent her the information, but since
Thursday is an American holiday, don't expect to see the changes until
later this weekend.

To thank Kathy for her hours of work that she puts in on the Azores GenWeb,
email her here:

In Miguel Soares da Silva's Reconstituição das Famílias de Santo António, he
has Manuel, b. 20-2-1734 born to António de Aguiar and Maria Rosa, she being
from Bretanha. So we know he and Maria Rosa were living in Santo António in
1734. There is no marriage for them, but there are gaps in the marriage
records of S. António; however, there are no gaps beginning in 1729, so if
they married in S. António it was between 1719 and 1728 inclusive.

In 1737 an António de Aguiar is witness to a marriage in Santo António.

In Bretanha in that time period, there is only one António de Aguiar,
marrying in 1733, but to Paula Araújo Carvalho. (The records appear intact
for that period).

The António de Aguiar living in Monte de Santa Bárbara was married twice,
but neither wife was named Maria Rosa. That António's first wife was Maria
de Viveiros Frias (d. 1742) and the second wife was Maria de Viveiros de
Arruda (d. 1787).

I wish I could be of more help. Have you found a death record for Maria
Rosa?

I have not had a chance to look at the record. There are two S. António
parishes in S. Miguel, that I know of: Santo António (além Capelas) and
Santo António Nordestinho. The one near Capelas had a suffragan chapel,
Santa Bárbara do Monte, which is today a separate parish. To confuse things
more, there is also the parish of S. Bárbara near Ribeira Grande. My guess

My guess
is that one in your record is probably S. António além Capelas, Lugar do
Monte (Santa Bárbara) but again, I have not actually looked at the record.

[AZORES-Genealogy] Portuguese genealogist football fans - off topic

2013-11-27 Thread pico
In case there are any on this list who are interested in Fantasy Football and want to join a league for next season, let me know.I got the idea after today talking with another list member about it and so figured maybe there are others.Of course, it's completely outside of genealogy, but could be tied together by the fact we're all interested in genealogy.I have two football leagues that have been going for 3 or 4 years now and would be willing to create another league for Portuguese genealogist fans.Let me know in private.Send your email to my other address:n...@rochaholmes.comI think it would be great. And don't worry if you have never played before. If you are a fan, you will absolutely love playing this fantasy game. There are usually 12 to 14 players in each league. If we have enough, we could have two such leagues, or if not enough, I can usually find others interested to join to fill up the league. It's early to think about this, but since tomorrow is a big day for football (oh yea, I think it's also something called Thanksgiving), then maybe this is the right time to bring this subject up.Me? I'm a life long Minnesota Vikings fan.And by the way, women are often found playing this. There are two in one of my leagues. My daughter is in first place right now. I'm struggling to make our playoffs. So man or woman, it's just fun.Doug da Rocha HolmesSacramento, CaliforniaPico & Terceira Genealogist916-550-1618www.dholmes.com

Yes, do sign up for his surname project also. That is how I found my
spouse's family. Also, I believe even if you sign up for the Azores
project there is a place you can check to show all matches. Going out the
door, not sure what it is called at the moment.

Gerri M,

Order through the Azores Project here:

You can join him to an Irish project too (if they accept Family Finder.
Some admins are Y-based Surname projects only).

I'm going to guess that you are ordering the Family Finder. Yes, the
results will compare him to ALL people who have tested the Family Finder at
FTDNA (about 75,000 people as of Oct. 9).

[AZORES-Genealogy] DNA family finder

2013-11-27 Thread Gerri
I am going to order a DNA test for my husband. I know how to do it through the
Azores project. This is probably a silly question, but..will it automatically
show all his matches, (he is half Irish, half Azores), or do I have to join an
Irish project also?
