Fred,As Margaret said, it names his executor as his sister. You might discover that these are close relatives to you, since he has the same name.Often times people don't care about remote siblings, but to make a complete family group and perhaps add additional color to a b/w tree, finding every sibling of every ancestor is what I recommend. If you can find his baptism and it matches to the age at death, then maybe find his sister by this name getting married, or either one as godparents for your own ancestors, then you will have successfully added these two people to your tree.Doug da Rocha HolmesPico & Terceira Genealogist=Get ready for NFL Fantasy Football and join me in the newly created Azores Genealogist League. Hi Fred,

Unless your 6th GGF was a single person you may not have the right Bras
Correa for this gentleman status at 50 years of age +/- at his death (sui
juris) emancipated/independent/single. The meaning of sui juris is as
noted by Doug. He had a will made up with his sister Francisca Correia,
also sui juris (single) being the executor.

[AZORES-Genealogy] Family of Antonio de Andrade and Catherina Pereira - Flamengos, Faial

2014-08-21 Thread Lee
I'm wondering if anyone has come across this family while researching in
Flamengos?

Their only known child (that I've been able to find so far) was Antonio Pereira
born June 9, 1733 in Flamengos who married Anna Roza (born July 26, 1743 in
Flamengos, daughter of Francisco Pereira and Catherina Pereira - yes, both had
a mother named Catherina Pereira) on January 29, 1761 n Flamengos.

I have only been able to find the one child of Antonio de Andade and Catherina
Pereira as of yet. I hsve not been able to find a marriage record them either.

I DO know that Catherina Pereira (Antonio's wife) diedOctober 5, 1757 in
Flamengos, still looking for Antonio's death record

Fred,I didn't look at your record, but here's part of the answer. It's Latin and found in Portuguese church records:In civil law the phrase sui juris indicates legal competence, the capacity to manage one's own affairs (Black's Law Dictionary, Oxford English Dictionary) as opposed to alieni juris,
which means someone under the control of another, such as one adjudged
incapable of appropriate self-determinations or an infant.Doug da Rocha HolmesPico & Terceira Genealogist=Get ready for NFL Fantasy Football and join me in the newly created Azores Genealogist League. Still looking for more participants.Write me here for more info: n...@rochaholmes.com=

[AZORES-Genealogy] Re: Monte de Cima, Pico

2014-08-21 Thread Manuel Martins
The place called Monte, where I grew up, consists of Monte de Baixo and
Monte de Cima, the town sits between two hills, the lower and the higher
hill. I belongs to Candelaria even though it's closer to Criacao Velha.
In Monte there are places called Pocinho, Calhau and Mingato.

Who has family from Monte de Cima? I would be interested as my maternal
grandfather's mother's family is from Monte and I grew up there.

Thank you

Manny
