Re: [AZORES-Genealogy] Help with village/parish translation

2014-10-20 Thread Cheri Mello
Gerri M,

It almost looks like S.Miguel de Deus, of the villa of Povoacao. The church
over in Povoacao is Mae de Deus, so that is what the priest or scribe must
have meant.

Paternal grands: You turned the word Paterno into Antonio. The stick on
the left of the P is so big, it looks like an A. It's just Joao Furtado &
Violante Maria.

I read the baptism date as 18 August 1878 and the birthdate as 19 July
1878; but I think you were asking about the date of death written in the
margin. I read this as 15 June 1941 or 1942. I tend to think 1942 more
likely because of what looks like a dotted letter "I".

Joao,

The front page article sounds like a great idea, I suspect some people in
Portugal will read what Genetic Genealogy can do for them specifically for
the first time. Also I think a good selling point for FTDNA in

Portugal is that there already are Portuguese samples to compare to 1000+
Y-DNA and 800+ mtDNA.
