mtDNA matches are different than Y or autosomal (Family Finder) matches.

With mtDNA, people need to test the Full Mitochondrial Sequence test (HVR1,
HVR2, and the Coding Region (CR)).

After testing, about 50% of your matches with be within 1000 years with
mtDNA testing. With a genetic distance of 0 (ZERO). So if you are looking
at a genetic distance of 1, you could be taking a couple of thousand years
ago, which explains you matching half of Europe.

Hi Kaesky,

I order to get stated in genealogy, you need the FULL name(s), dates (or
estimates), and location. You only have a general location of Terceira.
That's not good enough. Everything there is organized on the town/village
level. You need to do more work in America or Canada or wherever the
immigrant went. You'll need to search many American/Canadian/whatever
sources looking for full name(s), dates, and the village over there.

an orphan.

I do not know what the words after exposto and before Joao's name mean.  Or
what the document is saying after Joao's name but before the date.

[AZORES-Genealogy] Starting Out

Hi there, I'm new to Google groups.  Forgive me if I am not doing something 
right.  I haven't done a lot of research on my Portuguese side.  I do know 
my ancestors came from Terceira.  My family names are Borges and Machado.  
I'm sure those are probably the "Smith" of Portuguese.  How do I find 
records for Borges and Machado?  I cannot even read any of what I did see.  
Any hints, tips and suggestions are appreciated. Thank you!
