[AZORES-Genealogy] Joseph Silva - Azorean sailor

Hello all,

I am looking for information on my great-great-grandfather, Jose Silva. He 
was a sailor from the Azores who met and married Mary Anne Walsh in New 
South Wales, Australia. His year of birth is somewhere between 1851-1854, 
and I believe he was from Pico Island. I have indexes of his marriage and 
death, and some sailing records, but no record of his birth. I'd appreciate 
any advice on how to search for this.

I will have to do some more work on this line as I think it ties in with my
Fragoso side.  One of the witnesses on Goncalo's wedding was my ggg great
uncle Dionisio Fragoso.

They have the free version, but it's a limited account. To unlock
everything is $39 (versus the $99 to retest plus the $12 or so S&H).

Download your raw data from Ancestry and then upload it to FTDNA via the
directions provided in the link above.

When you transfer over, you can join the Azores Project at FTDNA. We have a
few hundred people of Azorean descent who have tested their autosomal DNA
(FTDNA calls this Family Finder). So you will have more Azorean matches
there than on Ancestry or 23andMe. Also, you will have access to us project
administrators who can help you. As the project grows, the admins will be
able to figure out various family groups for our project.

Everyone

Yes, Rootsweb is offline. Why, I’m not really sure ….. probably some problem 
with their Server. So, that makes the Azores GenWeb offline, as well, as the 
site is served from there. Hopefully, whatever issues they’re having will be 
resolved soon and we can all get back to enjoying what Rootsweb has to offer. I 
will post to the list when we’re back online.
