to those who are seeking information about ancestors from pico (and some
from sao jorge), azorean professor norberta amorim, retired, of the
university of minho in northern portugal has compiled records about pico
(see bilingual  site below, CITCEM).
it is a good place to start but it is not entirely accurate so info should
be compared to actual parish records which are also available online (see
CULTURA section below), although the handwriting is often difficult to read.

the site has other goodies such as information about early flemish
settlement.

 if anyone requires info from madalena in the last 100 years drop me a
line, i may be able to assist.

Can you provide a link for the record where the term appears?  

My understanding is that a baptism may be recorded "sub condicione" by a 
priest when it is the second baptism of an individual, and the priest has a 
concern that the first baptism might not have been performed exactly 
right-- such as a baptism done by a lay person.  The term describes the 
condition of the baptismal rite rather than that of the baby.

What does it mean when a baby was born sub condicianco?  Was this baby a
preemie?  I get the general gist that the baby was born in less than ideal
health, just wondering if there was something specifically wrong.
