[AZORES-Genealogy] Help with grooms last name and widow's status

2017-02-05 Thread Maria Lima
Right side, 2nd down
http://culturacores.azores.gov.pt/biblioteca_digital/SMG-PD-GINETES-C-1646-1713/SMG-PD-GINETES-C-1646-1713_item1/P31.html

Is the groom's last name Rodrigues , son of Pedro Gonçalves and Luzia
Rodrigues??

Then the fifth line down it says something about the widow "aversão something
or other 3 announcements??

Her husband, Hieronimo, died 3 months prior! They had 3 kids.

Any help will be great! Thank you

Re: [AZORES-Genealogy] Name of child

2017-02-05 Thread JR
I would stick with Tereza. Study the L's, there is complete bottom loop.
This first letter stops at the bottom. The dotted 'i' is perhaps
accidental. May be even Terezia. See here for clear Tereza, no bottom loop
like the L.

Re: [AZORES-Genealogy] Re: Frank Gomes and Manuel Gomes

2017-02-05 Thread 'Ralph Sellars' via Azores Genealogy
Some 3 years ago a generous member of this group shared with me (Thank you)
they had found what may be a 5 G G mother of mine name Catarina Gomes who was
married to a Manuel Valadao. I have recorded my understanding in that the
source of this is a " Flores History Book / Azores web".  If any one knows  a
more definitive title and/or author of such  a book I would be appreciative if
I could be so informed.
Family//Search has a Find A Grave Index record of a Catarina Gomes death 15 Mar
1650 at Cedros, Horta Municipality, Azores Region, Portugal.  It also shows she
had a Child Maria Gomes.  (_ - 1671).  My Catarina Gomes had a daughter
Maria who married a Joao Rodrigues Serpa.
The web encyclopedia Wikipedia says Cedros, Horta Municipality, Azores is on
Faial, but I have documentation that my 2 G G parents came from Cedros on
Flores and it has been stated my 3 G G Father served the Church on both Cedros
and Faial  before relocating to Samoa and marring the kings daughter (?)
All too interesting likely to be factual, but with enough possibility that
there may some value to be considered .
I would welcome any thoughts or other avenues to venture to for perusing this
family or sharing additional information which would document this family line
from my Manuel Lewis (!) and wife  Francisca Marianne Joseph and the above
referenced  Manuel Valadao and Catarina Gomes.

Thanks all...

Now that I re-read the record (having the benefit of all of your thoughts
and input) the record is pretty clear. It's the first of this type that
I've seen and it threw me for a bit of a loop. But that's why we're all
here... to help and to be of help. And a special apology to José Alves
Cabral (the Vice Vigario) for the flippant reference to "Vinho" ;)

Thanks again.

For the godparents the priest wrote the godparents were Gaspar Martins son of

The parents of the baby may be cousins and are waiting on the dispensation to
marry, but went ahead and started a family. On the other hand, maybe they are
cousins and became "weak of the flesh" (the words of the day) or were jonesing
for each other (that's probably American slang). She batted her eyelashes, he
became weak in the knees...don't know. If they are cousins you might get lucky
and find a dispensation (not all exist). You'd have to hire João Ventura, the
archivist, to look for it (if it exists). Begin looking for a marriage on 28
Feb 1780. All you know is that the parents were not married on the baptism
date. The marriage will let you know if they are related.

RE: [AZORES-Genealogy] Bernardina filha de ? on February 19th, 1784 - Santo Espirito, Santa Maria

2017-02-05 Thread Richard Francis Pimentel
It makes sense to me Bernardina is the daughter of Antonia de Chaves who is the
daughter of Gonsalo de Andrade and his wife Antonia Margarida de Cheves and her
betrothed Andre Jose Soares who is the son of Antonio Soares de Sousa and his
wife Anna da Gloria. Antonia de Cheves is engaged to Andre Jose Soares and
they jumped the gun on starting a family.

Re: [AZORES-Genealogy] where and when did he die

2017-02-05 Thread JR
There are lots of Fragoso's in Rosario de Lagoa. Have you looked there? I
think it reasonable to assume the Fragoso's have their origins in Lagoa.
Almost all the one's I have encountered, and those posted here, trace back
to Lagoa. Also, you may find some Ponta Delgada.

2017-02-05 Thread Cheri Mello
Don V,
If you tested with FTDNA, you need to be part of the Azores DNA Project
(log into your kit, point at Projects, then Join A Project, then in the
Search by Surname type "azores." Click that and follow the directions to
the end). The Sao Jorge island people are really starting to cluster now.

If you tested with AncestryDNA or 23andMe, FTDNA should be able to accept
transfers soon (a couple of more months).
