Re: [AZORES-Genealogy] Manuel Bernard (1847-1928)

Hi David E,

The only thing you will get in the Azores is his baptism. You did not say
what year he went to New Zealand. You may or may not find him outbound from
the Azores. There's no record in the Azores to substantiate a rumor of a
brother in Buenos Aires. As to what he did in New Zealand, you'll have to
do New Zealand research to figure that out. There are a few New Zealand
researchers on this list. Cheri Mello

[AZORES-Genealogy] Manuel Bernard (1847-1928)

2018-02-13 Thread David Edwards
I'm interested in any information about my great-great-grandfather Manuel
Bernard (1847-1928), from Flores. He emigrated to New Zealand and is
buried in Wellington.

Is there any information about his life, eg his family in the Azores, how
he came to New Zealand and what he did here, any truth to the rumour of a
brother in Buenos Aires?

Prudencia Narcisa is my husband's ancestor. She is his 3rd great-grandmother.
She was born about 1785 in Santo Antonio, Pico, Azores.
Do you have her DOMarriage as 13 July 1811, in Feteira, Faial, Azores?

So, I've hit a bit of a snag. An ancestor of mine, Prudenciana Narcisa (do
Coração de Jesus), was born - according to her obit, marriage, and children's
baptisms to be from Santo Antonio. The problem is, her obit lists her age as 80
in her obit in 1865, and the baptisms in Santo Antonio on the Centro/Tombo
sites don't go back before 1815.

Is this an issue of records being lost, or was Santo Antonio part of a
different parish at the time? Or is it something else I didn't think of?
