Re: [AZORES-Genealogy] Re: Has anyone seen a passport issued in the name of the father of the kid (12 years old)?
Antonio, was a minor at the age of 12. Things change. I've seen name changes, more so for women than men, but some men did change it. So being a minor, named Antonio, he emigrated under the family name of Martins d'Azara. I don't know what the the consulate did. Their records are not available, to my knowledge. Re: [AZORES-Genealogy] Re: Has anyone seen a passport issued in the name of the father of the kid (12 years old)?
The 1857 passaporte is for Antonio Martins d'Azara, age 12. If you think he's the 1845 Antonio in that baptism record, then he is. You have to decided if Antonio Aniceto Azara de Oliveira is Antonio Martins d'Azara. If he is, he changed his name after being in Brasil for awhile. There was a thread from about a year ago where someone stated majority age was 25. So maybe at that time, he changed his name. Re: [AZORES-Genealogy] Re: Has anyone seen a passport issued in the name of the father of the kid (12 years old)?
Yes, my text was a bit confusing and incomplete. Let me try to fill the gaps on my previous message. - My great great grandparents: Antonio Martins d'Azara and Theodora Emilia. They got married on 1844, according to their marriage registration that I could find at the culturazores website (http://culturacores.azores.gov.pt/biblioteca_digital/TER-AH-SE-C-1828-1849/TER-AH-SE-C-1828-1849_item1/P227.html) - right page. - Then on 1845 my great grandfather was born. His name was Antonio Aniceto Azara de Oliveira. His baptism certificate I could also find at the culturazores website. ( http://culturacores.azores.gov.pt/biblioteca_digital/TER-AH-RIBEIRINHA-B-1845-1857/TER-AH-RIBEIRINHA-B-1845-1857_item1/P5.html) - bottom left page - Then on 1857 a passport was issued for Antonio Martins d'Azara (age 12). Passport 186, issued on november, 1857 (http://culturacores.azores.gov.pt/biblioteca_digital/PASSAPORTES-TER-1857-1863/PASSAPORTES-TER-1857-1863_item1/P16.html) - And finally on 1870, a copy of a document called "habilitacão" was issued at the General Consulate of Portugal in Brazil (This one I have in paper here with me). It says it is a copy and that the original was issued on january, 1858 (which matches the date of the boarding in the ship, but not the original passport but is close). This is what is written at the habilitação (besides showing the same biometrics information and age as the passport above): Em 1858 JOSE HENRIQUES FERREIRA Consul Geral de Portugal no Rio de Janeiro, & ct. Faço saber Antonio Aniceto Ázara de Oliveira, filho de Antonio Martins d'Ázara, natural da Ilha Terceira d’onde veio para este Império na Barca Portugueza Novo Rival em 2 de janeiro de 1858. Marceneiro. - Then on 1872 Antonio Aniceto Azara de Oliveira (my great grandfather) gets married at the age of 27 (according to his marriage certificate). Looking at all those dates together I keep thinking that the passport issued on 1857 belonged to Antonio Aniceto Azara de Oliveira, who really was 12 years old by the time, but I can`t figure out why the name there is his father`s. So I was wondering if anyone had seen this before. Thanks!! Re: [AZORES-Genealogy] Golden State Killer Caught with DNA
It is my understanding that some are pulling their DNA from GEDMatch. They wanted their DNA to be used for genealogy and feel that the police use of a family database for criminal work feels invasive to them. Everyone is entitled to their own feelings, so some may stay and some may go. In my DNA lecture on third party tools, I've always explained that GedMatch lives out there on the Wild Wild West of the Internet and have a slide that shows a western scene with a couple of guys in front of a saloon, ready for a show down. You need to completely understand the Terms and Services of the third party sites when you upload. FTDNA has a warning screen on their end that states when you download your raw data and take it with you, you're on your own. Kinda like withdrawing money from a bank. Your money is safe when it's in a bank (and banks in America have a type of insurance to keep money safe), but if you take your money out of the bank and get robbed on the way home, the bank can't help you. There will be more coming up soon with Europe's General Data Privacy Regulation (GDPR) on May 25th. FTDNA is complying and you will have even more security of your DNA. A couple of security things are already active on FTDNA. This is for any customer of FTDNA, anywhere in the world.
