Pete J,

Are you in America? If so, I can give you a call (probably tomorrow or over
the weekend).

Right now, I can ask FTDNA to hold those kits (at the sale price) until we
talk. Email me your phone number privately at gfscherim at gmail.com with
some good days and times to call. Cheri

Re: [AZORES-Genealogy] Re: Family Tree DNA Sale in honor of America's Thanksgiving

2018-11-22 Thread Cheri Mello
Pete J,

You want Family Finder. That's the same product that Ancestry sells.
FTDNA's Family Finder tests about twice the amount of family markers that
Ancestry does, however. (Ancestry replaced about half of their markers with
health markers so they can sell your DNA to Calico Life Sciences. Read the
small print in their Terms and Conditions).

If you have a specific brickwall or want to work on isolating one line at a
time, then you'll want one of the other products. If you want to look at
your Jollymour line only (your father's father's father's father's line -
all men, all the way back - the top of your pedigree), then you'd want a
Y-DNA 37 or 67 test. If you want to look at your mother's mother's mother's
line - all women, all the way back - the bottom of your pedigree), then
you'd want the Full Mitochodrial Sequence. And they have combinations of
everything.

If you are just getting into DNA for the first time and have no specific
obstacle to overcome, order Family Finder. If your parents (or
grandparents) are alive, test them first, as they are the older generation.
If the siblings of your parents (or grandparents) are alive, test them. You
can order a test and put it in your name and we can have it reassigned
later.

Order here (or I can't help if there's a glitch - doesn't matter if it's
your Portuguese line or not - I'll find you the correct project):

Thank you for that clarification!  That makes sense the baby would go to a

Thank you all for your responses!  This is really interesting to me.  I have

The link provided an interesting history.  I had heard of the "wheel" before,
but didn't really understand the concept.  Now I have a much better idea of
what it was.

Thanks again for the help on this record!

I was hoping those who known Portuguese better than I do (which is pretty much

Also in the side margin it seems to be saying he is the child of Maria Pacheco.
Is that correct? Is it inferring that Maria de Jesus is the birth mother, too,
or just someone name Maria Pacheco? What do the numbers after stand for?

I believe Joao Pacheco Grande is the son of Manoel Pacheco and Marianna Rosa,
and grandson of my ancestors Joao Pacheo and Francisca Theresa.  Maria de Jesus
would have been his 3rd wife, Maria de Jesus Pacheco, daughter of Manoel
Pacheco and Anna de Jesus.  (I have not connected them, but they could be
related, too)

Thanks for any help you can offer!
