Hello there, Bill:Thank you SO MUCH for this information.
I will keep digging, too.
Are you on Sao Miguel ? This is incredible information.
I will stay in touch and keep talking to relatives in the States (not many
left!)
Can I stay in touch with you ?
So, in order to “prove” that I am her (Margarida’s) granddaughter, what
additional information do I need? My mother’s birth (Margarida’s daughter)
info? Other?
Thank you, again!
Best,Anne Marie SilviaMother Mary Silvia (maiden name Costa)My grandfather,
Margarida’s husband was either:Joseph CostaJose R Costa or Jose Rego Costa. His
name might have been changed to Joseph as my grandmother was known as Margaret
in the States (Fall River, MA).Died in US in either 1933, 1935, or 1936.

on the manifest for the SS Commonwealth departing Ponta Delgada on 16 March.
The manifest also gives the name Cabral for the first four of them.  This shows

Hi Anni,
If you have the date and ship name they left and arrived inBoston on, you
should be able to find their passport info, or the ships manifest. This will
tell their freguesia. Also, from Ancestry, look at census records 1920, 30, 40
to see  if they became citizens or not. Then look for naturalization records.
This will have much info as to birth record and family info .  It will indicate
Y yes   N no  or A applied on the census .  Then check National Archives for a
copy of the application.

My Cabral line is deRego , Ribeiro Grande

No Benevides that I know of

HiThank you!I only know that they left Sao Miguel in 1903 and, I blieve, were
from Sao Miguel, but I don’t know what village. I was hoping that there might
be some records in Sao Miguel of my grandmother’s parents.
I hardly see any village names on records in ancestry.com. i was hoping there
might be additional population records in Sao Miguel.
:-( ☹️
Ill keep digging, but no village names in any recods so far.. of rither my
grandparents or even their parents.thank you!Annie

Hi Annie,
The Azores are comprised of 9 islands. You need to narrow down the island
first, then find the village. Everything there is organized by the freguesia
(village).
The Azorean government digitized their records. Many freguesias go to the year
1911 and a few only go to 1905. The records can be accessed through Tombo.pt.
Click the British flag if you need to navigate in English. None of this will be
useful unless you have a freguesia. It would be like a European telling you
there ancestor was born in the United States. There's no comprehensive index
for that. Most of America is organized on the state level with New England
organized on the town level.
Good luck,
