Just an additional note, I'm not a native speaker, so I may have the 
connotations wrong, but I believe "vapor" is colloquial for "navio de 
vapor" just as in English "steamer" is for "steamship".

Thank you, Eric.  This is the only reason I can think of for ordering a
copy of baptism record 22 years after birth.  I am guessing that they would
need one to get a passportes and the fact that the word Vapor is noted in
the copy of the baptism record. Now to figure out where they were going???
Or if they really did go somewhere??
