RE: [AZORES-Genealogy] Patron Saints

2017-07-13 Thread doreencaetano
I was told by some very traditional old Catholics that the when a couple
married they too also declared a patron saint. I wonder if that is how we
became the Caetano do Canto from Saint Caetano, the patron saint of bread,
farmers, gamblers and the unemployed.

Santa Maria island uses St. Mary. Sao Miguel island uses St. Michael (the
archangel?). Sao Jorge uses St. George (the dragonslayer? Don't know which St.
George).

Other than that, I think it's usually whatever the church is. So my guess is
Capelo uses Santa Ana and Feteira uses the Divino Espirito Santo. Again, just
my guess.

[AZORES-Genealogy] Patron Saints

2017-07-12 Thread Sami
I was just wondering if there were any "official" patron saints of the
island of Faial, and of Capelo and Feteira specifically? I would like to
get a medal/s to wear in remembrance of my great-grandparents. Thanks in
advance for any answers! :)
