Thank you again. My nephew is really looking in to the ancestry of the
family I will give him this site. I think he will find it helpful.

2017-07-06 Thread 'Jeremy G. B-C' via Azores Genealogy
Oh ya! That is a really popular tall tale with Azoreans in Califonia. I have
two ancestors who actually did jump ship off whaling boats and swam to Morro
Bay (I have first hand accounts with writing about it), but most of the time I
hear this it checks out to be baloney! Just watch out for that!

There's a zillion Antonio Azevedos. And if I had $1 for every time someone
told me their ancestor "jumped ship," we'll I'd have a nice little bundle
of money.

You need to keep in mind that some stories became embellished over time.
Don't hold on to it as fact. You still need to look for him coming to
America on the American Passenger Arrivals and you still need to check for
him leaving the Azores. It was very hard to sneak past both ends. Maybe he
succeeded. But I'd still go looking for him.

2017-07-06 Thread Cheri Mello
Yes, Renelle, that's how you read the reports generated by the genealogy
software programs.

Since the initial paragraph says Isabel married Antonio in March of 1883,
I'd think their first kid was Manuel born Jan 1884 (that's just about
getting pregnant on your wedding night). Antonio born in Nov of 1885 seems
to be typical spacing in families. Sure, you could say there was a baby
born Dec of 1884 that was missed. But that's being pregnant almost every
day of the year.

Hello, my grandfather was Domingos (Dominic) Borba Azevedo, born 28 Dec
1887 in Calheta, São Jorge island; died 13 Aug 1955 in San Mateo Co., CA,
USA. My father was Gilbert Azevedo, born in Stanislaus Co., CA, USA. He
married Donna Pankoski. I am curious also about Antonio Azevedo middle
child of my great grandparents Isabel de Borba and António de Azevedo. I
was not told anything about him, I believed there were only two sons.
