[AZORES-Genealogy] Re: Death record

2019-07-08 Thread JR
Beatriz Gonsalves died March 25- 1707, more or less fifty years old, filha
de Domingos Manoel and Maria Gaspar; left will, buried in Capello, church
of Santissima Trindade.

So it is possible she or her children are located in Capello. Not sure
records go back that far.

:)Maybe we should get a group of people together and start extracting
the baptisms followed by death records now that the marriages are done.

Good job, Jeremy. I agree with Cheri, working on the collateral lines is
a good way to go.

Some of those whalers were pretty colorful characters. One in particular
who is in the Amaral book was Captain Antonio Caetano Corvello who was my
mother's second cousin. According to accounts that I've read, he had firery
red hair and a temper to match and was hard to work for. During one voyage,
he was faced with a mutiny which is documented in a book The Mutiny of the
Pedro Varela It's a paperback which you might be able to find to buy for
$3 or $4 by googling it. He was originally from Fajazinha, Flores, my
mother's home village.

Mike,

Google Portuguese Whaling and you will some books on the subject. I have
one from NB area A Window Back - Photography in a Whaling Port by Nicholas
Whitman. It is one of the Spinner books. These are great books on NB area
and their are several. You can usually find them used on addall.com and
sometimes on Ebay. I have company right now and when I can get to some
research, I will try and help you. It's going to be pretty difficult to try
and find his death date with just a year as most online records only go to
1910 and I think they are trying to get to 1915 eventually. I am not sure
what is on familysearch.org You might contact the NB Library on this if you
haven't already and usually if they are not too busy, they will try to
help, but please be sure to send them a donation for their help as they
surely need it and are very cooperative in our efforts to research our
families.

The reason why I asked about whaling is that my grt grt grandfather ran
away from the family farm on Faial at 16 yrs old in 1884 to go whaling on
the Charles W Morgan. After 8 months the Morgan went back to Faial to
resupply and he went home. But he heard so much about the USA from the crew
in 1888 he came to new Bedford for good.

actually let me look at the book (at the counter in front of them

looking for. Then they made the copy for me.
