Hi Walt, I believe that all of the films are now on-site. We will check though before we go in Sept. to make sure. It's good that we have the CCA and also the continent records available online too. Rosemary - I don't know if it still this way or not, but a number of years ago I went to the SLC FHC to review records from Portugal (not sure if it was for the Azores or the Continent) and they were not present at the library. They were in the granite mountain vault and it would take 3-4 days to get them to the library. I would suggest that if one is planning to look at certain films, they look on-line, or call the library, to make sure that they are physically there. This would tend to alleviate disappointment. I noticed my ancestor, Fernao Luis de Sousa listed under "Luis"named his son so I know it's the right one...perhaps I'll find him in other places as well. No, Nancy, you have to order it. I was hoping that it would be digitized already but it's not. I have it here in my FHC and it may be in other places but I don't think it's in Arkansas!! One of the good things about going to SLC it that all the films are at our fingertips, which helps sometimes. If I'm having a hard time reading something on the CCA I can always go to the film and sometimes it's easier to see that way! I think that there is another Sao Jorge genealogy that they've taken of the site. The index looked different in the back, not like the one I told you about. Darn, I wish I knew the name of it! Just FYI, the Sao Joao manuscript is also on one of the microfilms that SLC has of our Azorean records. It's on one of the Sao Jorge ones. If you have the microfilm at your local FHC, you can look at it that way too. I've written to Cheri and she will send me the shortcut when she gets home from tutoring. I still have no idea why Antonio Abreu/ spelled Habreu on his marriage, would take part of his wife's father's name, de Quadros. Why not his full name of de Quadros Pereira? Yikes! I've never seen a record where a man married his son-in-laws sister! Also, thank you for posting the links and the suggestion to look for Maria Bernarda's obit. This is my direct maternal line and Maria Bernarda's records are very illusive. I'd love to be able to trace her line back further.my Mt full sequence is H3b with 5 extra mutations and within the Iberian Ashkenazi Mt DNA Project at FTDNA our H3b is flagged as "likely Sephardic"and I have no close matches at allonly 1 and she's a genetic distance of 3no clues there.
