Re: [AZORES-Genealogy] Translation please
OK, the Passaportes leaving the Azores. The Passaportes are from the 3 ports of Ponta Delgada on Sao Miguel island, Angra on Terceira island, and Horta on Faial island. It does not mean that a person was from that island just because that is the port they sailed out of. Think of it like going on a cruise now. You are from _ and your cruise ship is leaving from Vancouver, British Columbia. Are you from there just because the ship is leaving there? No, you are not. So it's the same with the Passaportes. The Passaportes will vary with the information that they contain and they vary from port to port too. You hope for a Passaporte with the most information. The ones you are looking at are not listing the parents, but do list the place of birth. One link you provided says the guy was born in Faial and the other says Pico. Many Pico people left from the port of Horta on Faial. Pat, What is this and where did you get it? It's in Latin, not Portuguese. And which record are you referring to? The one with the 1875, Oct 14 date? Looks like the marriage of Joseph F, native of the Azores, (son of?) Joseph F. Rose and Francisca (Jacinta) with Flora (can't tell if that's an M after her name), native of Faial (Azores), (daughter of?) Joseph Vargas and Francisca (Ludovina) and the witnesses were Joanna B. Re: [AZORES-Genealogy] Translation please
Hi Susan, I know I worked with you in the past and it might very well have been on this same record. And you are right, the record did come from St. Patrick's seminary in Menlo Park. The day I was there the Father visiting was kind enough to take pictures of the records I found as I hadn't thought to take a camera with me. He then emailed me the pictures about a week later.I changed computers and lost my emails from you so I'm starting from scratch again. I'd love it if you would send me your email address again. Mine is rosebuds...@sbbmail.com . I have recently been in touch with Michelle LeVeira Flores, also on this group, and Harold Rose, and we're pretty sure the three of us are related at some level. Got some great pictures of Flora, her daughter, and some of Michelle's other relatives and it ties into Harold's records as well. It's been a lot of fun and once the three of us have time to sit down and go over more of our information we'll probably get together to see how it all fits together.I did get some Latin translations for ex=from, et= and, and that natum=born but it's back to what were the names and what did they get translated from before they came to America. RE: [AZORES-Genealogy] Translation please
That is what I see. It appears the priest wrote only the first name of the groom and bride as the custom that they took the fathers family name which follows. The bride’s name is spelled Floram which is Latin for Flora. The “ex” means from so the priest wrote Joseph F native of Azores ex (meaning coming from) Joseph F. Rose and Francisca Jacinta. Hi Everyone, Can someone please help with this notation? It was in the margin of Felica Rosa's marriage record from 2 Jul 1802. Is this maybe a notation that she died in February 1841? I would appreciate any insight that someone can give. Obrigado, Jacki -- To unsubscribe from this group, send email to azores+unsubscr...@googlegroups.com.
