Nancy Jean,

I have the same couple in my database as my 6th great grandparents, also from
Candelaria, but the birthdates are in 1668 and 1666 and I do not have a
marriage date. The data is from the NEPS database, but doesn’t sound right
because Madalena would have been 60 when the daughter Francisca Inacia was

Thanks, Marie... I checked out the various Macedos, but no connection point

I also descend from Francisca. I have attached a chart showing the direct line
from Francisca to me. Let me know if you find anything. I will also try to find
the baptism records in CCA since the NEPS database shows birthdates and places

Hi David,

Yes, my Silveira Cardoso's are in CITCEM/NEPS database. To find ANTONIO
SILVEIRA CARDOSO you need to look under his wife's name, ANA ROSALIA JESUS
MARIA (b. 1749, Lajes). I noticed that they have now added PEIXOTO to
his name. He is my 5th great grandfather.

JOSE SILVEIRA CARDOSO (1717-1791) is the father of ANA ROSALIA JESUS
MARIA. He is my 6th great grandfather. You can see him listed as such in the
database.

These are all in my direct line. I will send you some of my MACHADO

2013-05-12 Thread David Leitz
David,

It looks like I have a connection, also. My great, great, great uncle
Manuel Silveira Cardoso, (died 1May1872) is the brother of Jose Silveira
Cardoso.

Judy,

I also have Joao Carlos da Silveira and Maria do Rosario in my family.
They would be on my paternal grandmother's side six generations back.

 David,

Your thought was correct. There are other people out there who are
related. I just checked and your great grandfather and mine are 3rd
cousins, which makes us 6th cousins. Not a close relationship but still
related. I'm also pretty sure that someone I've tried to match with has an
Enos in their tree but I don't remember who it was. Hopefully I will run
across it again. Anyway, my great grandfather is Manuel Pereira Domingos,
born 1843, and the link is thru Joao Carlos da Silveira and Maria do
 Rosario. So one connection made.

Hi Marie -- Thanks for your note. With those surnames, and from Lajes do
Pico, it does seem likely we have one or more connections somewhere back
 there...

I was going to reply privately, but then I thought there might be other
folks with Lajes do Pico ancestors who tie in as well, so we might as well
all see where there might be any connections. In my case the UMinho NEPS
or CITCEM genealogies have already done a lot of the work (although I do
intend to go back and substantiate their genealogies from the original
records), so if you have ancestors who also appear in those genealogies it
will probably be easy for us to trace at least some links, if they exist.

My entry point into the NEPS/CITCEM genealogies is my great-grandfather,
who was born Francisco Ignácio (de) Macedo in Lajes do Pico, on Mar. 9,
1858. In the US, he anglicized his name to Frank M. Enos and was known
for being the first police officer of Portuguese origin to serve in New
Bedford, MA, and as one of the founders of St. John the Baptist Church. He
was the son of José Silveira Cardoso and Maria (do) Carmo (de) Macedo.
(Sometimes they used the do and de; sometimes they didn't.)

Francisco/Frank can be found in the genealogies at this link:

 pt;i=7932;oc=364http://www.ghp.ics.uminho.pt/geneweb/gwd.exe?b=Lajes;lang=pt;i=7932;oc=364

Let me know if we connect anywhere!

I have tried to locate online either some place from which I can purchase
a copy of the book Familias da Ilha das Flores or else some library that
has a copy I could request... But no luck yet on either score. Not even
the Family History Library Catalog seems to list it...

I did locate on a cached page from the Azores Regional Government website
an e-mail address for the author, who apparently had a role with a
government agency, but the current version of the website no longer carries
his
name or that government e-mail address, so I have to assume he is no longer in
that role and so the e-mail address is no longer effective.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to how I could obtain a hard copy, or
are they all gone and I just need to wait for the e-book version to get
published (and in the meantime rely on the kindness of strangers for
look-ups)?

So, pending my getting hands on a copy of the Familias book, I do need to
ask for someone to do me the kindness of looking up a couple whom I located
in the Lajes das Flores section of the Casais das Flores e do Corvo book,
and letting me know in particular the names and birth dates of any children
they had:

José Francisco Coelho [n. Lomba, Lajes das Flores, f.º de Manuel Furtado
Coelho e de Isabel Furtado] c. 1844.09.01 c. Ana da Trindade [f.ª de Manuel
Furtado Lourenço e de Maria da Trindade]. -- from Casais, p. 107.

Thanks in advance for any help...
