Hopefully somewhere in all the records a village is mentioned. I have all the dates of arrival for both grandparents Lopez and Madruga. I have their original marriage certificate and his original naturalization papers. All records only state St. Fayal no village. The 1910 Federal Census for Phillipa Cardoza Madruga states birth place as Atlantic Island, Azores. All the children for Manuel Madruga and Phillipa were born in the US. All the Lopez's were born in St. Fayal and became naturalized citizens. Dimingo Lopez came from Spain but move to the Azores when he married his first wife. She died in child birth. Their two sons remained in the Azores. All the children from his marriage to Florinda were born in St. Fayal. They arrived in the US in 1884 with their eight children. A relative told me they came to the US because they hoped to avoid the draft in Portugal because they had seven boys. I have their records and a lot of stories from my grandfather. He lived to be 106. My father died very young and my grandparents helped raise my brother and myself. My mother gave me all the records before she died. I have been searching for months but cannot find anything else. I guess I need to return to Massachusetts this summer and try he check records from East Cambridge and Gloucester. I am sure the spelling of the surnames are correct. I remember my grandfather telling me his middle name was Rodriquez but at Ellis Island they changed it to Roger. I am going to review all the records I have and hopefully a village is mentioned, The website Family Search has a wealth of info and it is all free no membership, etc. Their records are very accurate. I have been researching St. Fayal. I am seriously thinking for traveling there sometime next year as finding my roots on both sides is very important. It's top priority on my bucket list. I am happy I found this group. Thanks again Eleanor -- To unsubscribe from this group, send email to azores+unsubscr...@googlegroups.com. Follow the confirmation directions when they arrive. Florinda Amaral was born in the Azores in 1861. They were married in St. Fayal in 1879. They came to the United States in 1894. There children were all born in St. Fayal (Faial). Florinda was Dimingo's second wife. His first wife died at 16 and their two sons remained in St. Fayal. Their children were: Felisberto 1881, James 1883, Joseph 1884, Josephine 1887, Emiel 1887, Anthony 1888, Americo 1889 and Manuel 1892. They lived in East Cambridge, Mass. until 1906. Then moved to Arlington, Mass. East Cambridge still has a large population of people from the Azores. There is a possibility that Florinda might be buried in Cambridge. There children all became naturalized citizens. I was told they left the Azores because the boys would have to serve in the Army. None of the brothers served in WW1. All all must have been deferred. Their occupations were Iron Workers and Fisherman accept for Felisberto and Anthony. Felisberto (known as Felix) was Captain of the Arlington Police Department and Anthony was Captain of the Fire Department. I have more dates regarding the brother's and sister but nothing else regarding Florinda or Dimingo. My mother's side of the family is very large. She had 72 first cousins. As a child I went to a lot of the festivals in East Cambridge, Gloucester and New Bedford. My grandfather had relatives in New Bedford. One of them was actually a professional Santa Clause.
