Cheri it could work. Gary's paternal grgrandparents were 15 years apart. She
was 15 uears older than he was. Actually when they got married he was 27 years
old, and she was 42 years old. It is written right in the record.

It seems she came over around 1882 to Hawaii. From my notes that I got from

your DNA lines. You come from Antonio de Mello Constancia de Jesus de

Shirley Allegre, Altino Demelo, and Todd (Brum) Brown. Richard Demello
Lori Pacheco are maybes. Don't know yet if they contact to this couple of

Repost for Fred Souza, fsouza31 at comcast.net

Cheri,

Thanks so much for clarifying how this works. I don't have any connection
to a genealogy program yet, but I regularly read the correspondence from
within the group, and this was the first time I had seen SOUSA mentioned, so
I wanted to look at what he had just in case it gave some hints to my
family. My only surviving uncle (born in the US) seems to think there was a
dramatic name change so that our last name shouldn't even be Souza, (and I
have some feeling that he may be right since my dad had issues when he
retired because of the name he thinks is the right one being on his birth
certificate). Of course, this makes finding any information really
complicated. On the other side it is even more complicated because there
maternal surname issue and there being a lack of any family to contact
creates another dead end. At this point I will be satisfied to just get
back to the information from the original immigrants, and leave it up to my
kids and cousins to go from there.

Thanks,

Frederick Souza

You tested your DNA, so you know more than you think.

Don't know which one of your lines yet, but your DNA is dancing around a
group of us with Vila Franca ancestry. So at least one of your lines comes
from there.

P.S. You may want to double check your genealogy program to be sure you
have the island as Sao Miguel. San Miguel island is one of the Channel
Islands off the coast of California. Someone searching the archive/web
board/forum may not be able to find your post as they would be looking for
Sao Miguel island, one of the Azores.

Aloha Cheri,

Sorry Cheri my misspelling it should be Sao Miguel in the Azores. I did
find quite a bit more info since I posted my tree. Just need to find the
time to put it in. My biggest set back on the Souza side is I can't find
him in any of the ship lists nor my great grandmother. This is where I'm
hoping that George is going to be able to help me.

I'm not sure where we connect but I do have a feeling it is through the
Barboza or Barbosa side. That would be my mother's grandmother. If that
is our link, just to let you know I do have a family pic with her and her
husband and all the children.

I'll keep on trudging...

Thanks,
