It doesn't matter if you go through Tombo.pt or directly to the CCA at:

They're having extreme weather. Terceira, Sao Miguel and Santa Maria have
been under torrential rain causing land slides and floods. In S. Miguel
alone there are 52 incidents with families being reallocated for safety
reason. This may have some bearing on accessing their server.

Many thanks, Maryann. I tried your suggestion, but it didn't work for me.
Going though tombo.pt using Chrome does appear to work-- at least for now.

Please ignore my suggestion about tombo.pt linking directly to an image

best wishes,

Having lived in Italy for a few years it always amazed me how things were put
off for a month long vacation which a great number of people enjoyed un like

However, I think that because everyone else can access it except Gerri, it
must somehow be on her end. :(

If she's putting www. in front it may be a problem. If she's wiping out
half of a previous used URL and typing part of it on her own, it may be a
problem. There could be many reasons.

Re: [AZORES-Genealogy] Re: CCA site added Feterias and Ginetes records!

2013-10-07 Thread João Ventura
Indeed, they have.

They've also added Ribeirinha and Salão to Horta (Faial). That completes
all the Horta parishes.. Maybe someone can compare the list with the LDS
microfilm index, and see if there's anything still missing.

From a personal point of view, I'm happy. My Azorean todo list was all in
thes missing Faial records. I can now continue on that front..

I have a work project with the University and the Government of the Azores. I'm eternally grateful for the support and for the passion they have for connecting with people in the Azorean Regional Communities--it is truly remarkable. So, I have no doubt that there is probably a commitment to making these records available online at some point. However, I have come to realize that the concept of time is very culturally based, and so Azorean time is very different from our concept of time. This is true not only in when things get done, but just in urgency of things in general. American's are much more focused on the efficient use of time. Azoreans never worry about when something will get done. It is quite stressful for me to work with them at times, but I have learned that things do get done, just not in any time frame that I think is reasonable. On a similar note, the first time I went to the Azores in 2010, I noticed that clocks are rare. I have yet to find a clock in the hotel rooms I have stayed in. However, the church bells keep time to the hour, so that is another indication of the granularity of times importance to the people (in my opinion). 2013-03-23 Thread Sam Koester
Yvonne; As an ex-pat living in Mexico during the summers, I certainly agree
about the concept of time and its’ importance in different cultures. I
think it is very hard for an American who has not experienced the lack of
regard for time commitments in certain other countries to fully comprehend
what it is like. It simply is not important! The saying here is that
“manaña” doesn’t mean tomorrow, it simply means, “not today”. i.e. sometime
in the future…

I went to the Azores in 2010, I noticed that clocks are rare. I have yet to
find a clock in the hotel rooms I have stayed in. However, the church bells
keep time to the hour, so that is another indication of the granularity of
times importance to the people (in my opinion).
