Re: [AZORES-Genealogy] Re: Sao Miguel Records
Ellen, The CCA seems to have their own timetable on getting Parish Records online. It may be next week that yours comes on or it may be a year from now! You have to just keep checking the site. They seem to start with one Concelho and a time and go alphabetically within it but who knows? Re: [AZORES-Genealogy] Re: Sao Miguel Records
Ellen, They've been coming online for years now. I think parish registers we see on the CCA site has been the last 2 years. I remember hearing Joao Ventura speak in 2007 that the records were ready to go but tied up in red tape about the cut off year due to privacy. It seem that took a year for the government to decide. I think the passaportes has been coming online like 6 years (or more). Soon? By my definition, no. Someday? I think so. Re: [AZORES-Genealogy] Re: Sao Miguel Records
As Cheri said it may take awhile. However it was only two weeks ago that the Agua do Pau records began to come online, and then a few days ago came Cabouco. Hopefully they continue at that pace, they may have finally been ready to upload the SM records and we will get more soon. Only my wishful thinking though! Re: [AZORES-Genealogy] Re: Sao Miguel Records
The only reason I remember some of this is because of my broken leg. The passaporte section had some records from the port of Angra. They were all typed up by Joao Ventura. You could search them (via modern Portuguse spelling - i.e. my surname of Mello would be Melo). They were the older ones with less info. They also had some from the port of Ponta Delgada on the Web site. Maybe from 1875 - 1903. That was at the old web site with the different URL. I seem to remember that it was a couple of years before my broken leg, so that would be about 2004. I remember when I broke my leg in the spring of 2006 and had to lay on my back with my leg elevated for weeks, that I was checking the CCA site and thinking they hadn't uploaded anything in a couple of years. Then I heard that they were going to change the URL to the new site, so I copied the Sao Miguel passaportes and Rosemarie copied Angra. That was late 2006 and early 2007. When the new site appeared, they took down Angra and slowly added a little bit more for Ponta Delgada. They never readded Angra and never added Horta. Joao Ventura came to CA in the spring of 2007. At that time he stated Sao Jorge records were all scanned and ready to go, but they had to wait for the OK from the government to post them (they have their privacy concerns too). They started to post Sao Jorge, Flores, Corvo, Terceira, and Sao Miguel over the last 2 years. Sao Miguel holds half the population of the Azores. That will be a fairly large section. Periodically, I ask that we email the CCA to let them know that we appreciate their efforts and look forward to more coming online. If they know that the site is getting used, I hope our emails keep their momentum up. *drac@azores.gov.pt* Cheri Mello Listowner, Azores-Gen Researching: Vila Franca, Ponta Garca, Ribeira Quente, Ribeira das Tainhas, Achada -- To unsubscribe from this group, send email to azores+unsubscr...@googlegroups.com.
