Omnibus episodes are one, but also there are cross-media programmes (Doctor Who and Torchwood are both on TV and radio) and cross-service programmes (Top Of The Pops stills runs on World Service radio). There are lots of useful things /programmes/ can do, for example sticking /microsite on the end of the URL redirects you to the full site for a programme that has one. http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio4/programmes/schedules/fm Shows today's Radio 4 FM schedule, but you can add .xml on the end to get a feed. > > > PS If it is a static link (which would be great) would > > http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/Archers have been a more descriptive URL? > There is also the podcast, you can get the RSS here: http://downloads.bbc.co.uk/podcasts/radio4/archers/rss.xml > -- > > *From:* owner-backstage-develo...@lists.bbc.co.uk [mailto: > owner-backstage-develo...@lists.bbc.co.uk] *On Behalf Of *Brian > Butterworth > *Sent:* Wednesday, July 15, 2009 2:00 PM > *To:* backstage-developer@lists.bbc.co.uk > *Subject:* Re: [backstage-developer] Stuck in Web 1.0... > > > > http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b006qrzz ? > > > > http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b006qpgr ? > > > > > > 2009/7/15 Mick > > Hi, > > > > I got to this list from a Radio 4 message board question, I’m not sure if > this is the right place for my question but I appreciate any help you can > give, though I must admit I definitely feel old school. > > > > I was using a web page that has short-cuts to various BBC radio programmes. > (It runs mainly on a very old laptop, running Win98, but works marvelously > as an internet radio). > > > > I had created a bunch of static links but recent changes on the BBC website > have made these invalid. > > > > For example for the Afternoon Play I had created the following HTML > > > > Afternoon Play – > > Monday > > Tuesday > > Wednesday > > Thursday > > Friday > > > > Note: The laptop ‘prefers’ to play the Realplayer link rather than iPlayer, > which it can cope with but does struggle. > > > > Is there a way I can setup a webpage that would allow one-click access to > available Afternoon Plays, Archers etc.? > > > > (from my research it seems that each Archer episode is now a different URL, > and I have been unable to decipher if there is a predictable pattern to the > format). > > > > Apologies if this is not the right place for this question. > > > > Cheers > > Mick Hanrahan > > > > > -- > > Brian Butterworth > > follow me on twitter: http://twitter.com/briantist > web: http://www.ukfree.tv - independent digital television and switchover > advice, since 2002 > -- Brian Butterworth follow me on twitter: http://twitter.com/briantist web: http://www.ukfree.tv - independent digital television and switchover advice, since 2002

You can try my Accessible BBC iPlayer program: http://www.webbie.org.uk/accessiblebbc/index.htm It lists BBC programmes available by station. Just double-click to play. Needs RealPlayer. Needs RealPlayer. Oh, and it needs RealPlayer. They are permanent. We hope and intend that they'll be around for as long http:/www.bbc.co.uk/ is. http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b006qpgr/episodes/player seems more comprehensive but still does not include the Omnibus. Archers Omnibus is http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b006qnkc. Hopefully one day we can offer a way to group those two together but you'll have to do yourself for now. Re: [backstage-developer] Stuck in Web 1.0...
there are program codes, series codes and episode codes. The best answer to your original question I can think of, is to use rss feeds to get episode codes from program codes, then use iplayer to play them. I don't know if it is still possible to reference a program with a code and automatically get the most recent show. It should be using rss feeds, but that will take some programming know how. RE: [backstage-developer] Stuck in Web 1.0...
Thanks Brian, do you know if these are actual 'static' links? That is, if I click on b006qpgr next week (or even tomorrow) will it display the current Archers episodes available? (Of course, I will check tomorrow to see the links are still valid). http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b006qpgr/episodes/player seems more comprehensive but still does not include the Omnibus. PS If it is a static link (which would be great) would http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/Archers have been a more descriptive URL? _ From: owner-backstage-develo...@lists.bbc.co.uk [mailto:owner-backstage-develo...@lists.bbc.co.uk] On Behalf Of Brian Butterworth Sent: Wednesday, July 15, 2009 2:00 PM To: backstage-developer@lists.bbc.co.uk Subject: Re: [backstage-developer] Stuck in Web 1.0... http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b006qrzz ? http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b006qpgr ? 2009/7/15 Mick Hi, I got to this list from a Radio 4 message board question, I'm not sure if this is the right place for my question but I appreciate any help you can give, though I must admit I definitely feel old school. I was using a web page that has short-cuts to various BBC radio programmes. (It runs mainly on a very old laptop, running Win98, but works marvelously as an internet radio). I had created a bunch of static links but recent changes on the BBC website have made these invalid. For example for the Afternoon Play I had created the following HTML Afternoon Play - Monday Tuesday Wednesday Thursday Friday Note: The laptop 'prefers' to play the Realplayer link rather than iPlayer, which it can cope with but does struggle. Is there a way I can setup a webpage that would allow one-click access to available Afternoon Plays, Archers etc.? (from my research it seems that each Archer episode is now a different URL, and I have been unable to decipher if there is a predictable pattern to the format). Apologies if this is not the right place for this question. [backstage-developer] Stuck in Web 1.0...
Hi, I got to this list from a Radio 4 message board question, I'm not sure if this is the right place for my question but I appreciate any help you can give, though I must admit I definitely feel old school. Cheers Mick Hanrahan
