At my current job we have two Bacula servers running: one is tape-based (for piles of more or less static data) and one is disk-based (for more dynamic/volatile data). [BackupPC-users] Backuppc doesn't back up all files on Vista machine
Let me preface my questions by saying that I know just about nothing about Windows administration, never wanted to, never needed to before now, so this may well be a duh! question. I finially got backuppc to back up my wife's Vista computer using smb after I figured out that the user name that she logs in with is not the real user name the system uses. Anyhow, in the backup logs there are a number of Xfer errors listed. There are 2 types of error; sharing violations and access violations. The sharing violations I understand but I was surprised to see access violations since the user is an administrator. One of the files I get an access violation on is C:\Documents and Settings. So, from my F8 box I ran $ smbclient user-pc\\c\$ -U user entered the password and got to an smb- prompt. A directory listing shows all the files under C: including one named Documents and Settings. What really confused me is that is if I log into the Vista machine as the same user and look at the files on the C: drive (with the show hidden files flag turned on), there is no Documents and Settings file! So I have 2 questions: 1) Why can't backuppc backup all the files when using smb as an administrator? 2) Why does smbclient show files that I cannot see when logged into the machine directly? Re: [BackupPC-users] Backups seem to work, but don't show up in web
OK, I see this is likely the cause of the huge logs : $Conf{XferLogLevel} = 99; Which I now recall having set early on in my debugging when I was trying to get more info on my problem. I'll set it back to 1 now and re-try a backup, and see where we get from there. -- I destroy my enemies when I make them my friends - Abraham Lincoln - This SF.Net email is sponsored by the Moblin Your Move Developer's challenge Build the coolest Linux based applications with Moblin SDK win great prizes Grand prize is a trip for two to an Open Source event anywhere in the world http://moblin-contest.org/redirect.php?banner_id=100url=/ ___ BackupPC-users mailing list BackupPC-users@lists.sourceforge.net List:https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/backuppc-users Wiki:http://backuppc.wiki.sourceforge.net Project: http://backuppc.sourceforge.net/

My assumption is that this is where expired backups go and then get cleaned out. What I am seeing is my trash folder grow and as such my /backups file system gets full, and then I need to delete manually, which can take quite a while. I also noticed that one of the directories under trash cannot be deleted. Not sure if this is causing the issue with the trash directory to be cleaned up. I tried to delete the directory under trash with the command: rm ?Rf dirname, but this returns the following error message: rm: cannot remove directory `1213856098_21475_0//f%2fvar/flib/fbackuppc/fpc/flinuxpc/f0/ff%252f/ffusr/ffshare/ffman/ffman3/ffform_field_buffer.3x.lzma/flib/fbackuppc/fpc/flinuxpc/f0/ff%252f/ffusr/ffshare/ffman/ffman3/ffform_field_buffer.3x.lzma/flib/fbackuppc/fpc/flinuxpc/f0/ff%252f/ffusr/ffshare/ffman/ffman3/ffform_field_buffer.3x.lzma/flib/fbackuppc/fpc/flinuxpc/f0/ff%252f/ffusr/ffshare/ffman/ffman3/ffform_field_buffer.3x.lzma/flib/fbackuppc/fpc/flinuxpc/f0/ff%252f/ffusr/ffshare/ffman/ffman3/ffform_field_buffer.3x.lzma/flib/fbackuppc/fpc/flinuxpc/f0/ff%252f/ffusr/ffshare/ffman/ffman3/ffform_field_buffer.3x.lzma/flib/fbackuppc/fpc/flinuxpc/f0/ff%252f/ffusr/ffshare/ffman/ffman3/ffform_field_buffer.3x.lzma/flib/fbackuppc/fpc/flinuxpc/f0/ff%252f/ffusr/ffshare/ffman/ffman3/ffform_field_buffer.3x.lzma/flib/fbackuppc/fpc/flinuxpc/f0/ff%252f/ffusr/ffshare/ffman/ffman3/ffform_field_buffer.3x.lzma/flib/fbackuppc/fpc/flinuxpc/f0/ff%252f/ffusr/ffshare/ffman/ffman3/ffform_field_buffer.3x.lzma/flib/fbackuppc/fpc/ flinuxpc/f0/ff%252f/ffusr': Directory not empty Looks kind of strange to me. And still there are reams and reams and reams of data that look benign to my untrained eyes. What's your XferLogLevel ($Conf{XferLogLevel}) setting? That sounds a lot like output from a high debugging level.
