[BackupPC-users] Call timed out: server did not respond after 20000 ms

2010-12-22 Thread Jln
Okay!

Thank you for the quick reply.

I'll deactivate the av and will do a fullbackup.
If the backup success than I must recompile samba sure?

;-)

  it took just to much time to scan large files and smb client has a fixed
  timeout of 10secs. if u want to change it you'll have to recompile samba.

Hi,

I just got one of those as well. It looks like it may be a recursive link in
the file system, though I'm not 100% sure. It may also be heavily nested
directories.

Re: [BackupPC-users] Call Timed Out

2009-08-05 Thread Chris Baker

This problem doesn't necessarily mean open files. It could simply mean that
it is having trouble reading a directory listing.

I get this error quite a bit on some two older laptops. And it's almost
always on the same directory. Rsync did not solve the problem either. It
ended up abandoning BackupPC for them. However, I would love to get rid of
the laptops as well.

Make sure your Windows machines have been defragmented.

I believe that increasing the 2 ms requirement would involve recompiling
the kernel.

This is probably a symptom of on-access virus scanning.

2007-05-21 Thread Craig Barratt
Regis writes:

 Backup stop with the message:
 Error reading file \Local Settings\Temp\Cover picture.tiff : Call timed
 out: server did not respond after 2 milliseconds

If you look at the mail lists you will see that this error is
typically due to anti-virus software running on the client that
takes this long (20sec) to respond. This might happen when there
is a large directory on the client.

The work arounds are to disable the AV software (or get it to skip
the large directories), or to compile your own version of smbclient
with a longer timeout.

Rsync doesn't have such a timeout so you could consider using it
instead.

Thank you very much.

I saw this work arounds in the mailing list, but I never found this

Subject: [BackupPC-users] PATCHES: Timeout issues with smbclient: Call
timed out: server did
 not respond after 2 milliseconds

For those continuing to use and have timeout problems with smbclient, I've
created a patch and a Gentoo ebuild against samba-3.0.10 that increases the
timeout value from 2 to 2000 milliseconds. This should be more than
plenty of time for large files to be scanned by antivirus apps, etc.
without causing smbclient to fail during the backup.

The patch can be used independently of the Gentoo ebuild.

 I have still problems with backuppc-3.0.0.

 Backup stop with the message
 Error reading file \Local Settings\Temp\Cover picture.tiff : Call timed
 out: server did not respond after 2 milliseconds
 I am using samba-client-3.0.10-1.4E.11 for smbclient

 I saw that the problem was depending on the samba version, then, I
 installed backuppc-3.0.0 on an other server with
 samba-client-3.0.23c-2.el5.2.0.2

 Now, exclude doesn't work ...
 For a test_pc, test_pc.pl is:
 $Conf{SmbShareName} = 'Documents';
 $Conf{SmbShareUserName} = 'rgras';
 $Conf{SmbSharePasswd} = 'x';

 With this configuration, backuppc works fine.

 Now, I want to exclude some directory. The test_pc.pl becomes
 $Conf{SmbShareName} = 'Documents';
 $Conf{SmbShareUserName} = 'rgras';
 $Conf{SmbSharePasswd} = 'x';
 $Conf{BackupFilesExclude} = [ '\Personnel' ];

Change the \ to a /

$Conf{BackupFilesExclude} = [ '/Personnel' ];

Remember also that excludes are relative to the share, so the above assumes
that the Personnel directory is at the root of the share called Documents.

Regards,

Les
