Re: [BackupPC-users] BackupPC opinion

2020-01-17 Thread Bob Wooden

I agree, *BY FAR* the best backup server.

To suggest an answer, in my case, I have two BackupPC servers running
across an OpenVPN connection. Each server is in a different graphic
location. (My house and here at my work.)

On the clients being backed up across the OpenVPN (work to home and vise
versa) I had to extend the "PingMaxMsec" to allow time for connection.

Other than that, the rest of my settings are (I think) identical across
both BackupPC machines. If one location burns down or blows away
(tornado?) odds are the other location should be fine (I hope, I hope)
and I can rebuild from those backups.

If my area has a catastrophic natural disaster, well, I'm probably in a
bad way. My survival instincts will probably kick in . . . if I survived.

I will add that I have seen other options for you to consider.

(THANK YOU So Much, Craig Your the best!!)

Thank you for your business.

Just a useless email but.. BackupPC is *BY FAR* the best backup software

I'm using it with success (but with some issues) on a very old and slow server
and, starting from 2 weeks ago, even on a brand new and much faster server.

Absolutely superb.

Maybe I have just one little complain: what happens in case of
disaster on backuppc server?
I won't be able to manually recover a file, right ? rsnapshot is
better in this specific task, as
it will save the verbatim file as coming frm the remote server.
Any disaster recovery procedure available with BackupPC ? A sort of
"TOC" like in cdrom
saying which file is where without having to restore the whole pool ?

2020-01-17 Thread Greg Harris
I’ve seen the suggestion of the idea that an off-site backup utilize the
“Archive” function to mitigate such a failure.

Thanks,
