Re: [Bacula-users] baclua suddenly stop using the whole tape
Am 30.09.2014 16:30, schrieb Heitor Faria: I have a kinda general question because I can't really determine what happend but for a while now one of my jobs is either not running at all or if the job runs the tapes never get written to the full capacity. This is usually normal, since tape drives have enabled hardware compression and the real capacity will depend in what kind of data is being backuped (e.g.: already compressed formats in your backup like zip, gz, iso, jpg etc. will make your tape hold less data). I have a well defined file set with not much changes regarding the amount of files to save but this isnt really the problem here. Since it seems a bit unclear what I meant let me give you some more details. I have a job that need at least 3 tapes to store all the data and it was always using the full space of the first 2 tapes befor he started writing on the last tape (as I would expect it) but for a while now the first and second tape just get written on till they are 70% or 80% full. And even this differs. So basically the job fails because I signals I need another tabpe that isnt in the changer. Oh and I notice the db dump was always 2gb and now its just 1,5gb is this usual (like bacula is cleaning up old entries) Please avoid mixing threads. It's likely that your prune / volume retention policy have pruned / purged some information from Bacula Catalog. or could this be a cause of the problem ? No. this was just additional info so it may help to find a solution regards -- Markus Rosjatfon: +49 351 8107223 tel:%2B49%20351%208107223 mail: ros...@ghweb.de mailto:ros...@ghweb.de G+H Webservice GbR Gorzolla, Herrmann Königsbrücker Str. 70, 01099 Dresden http://www.ghweb.de http://www.ghweb.de/ fon: +49 351 8107220 tel:%2B49%20351%208107220 fax: +49 351 8107227 tel:%2B49%20351%208107227 Bitte prüfen Sie, ob diese Mail wirklich ausgedruckt werden muss! [Bacula-users] Job is waiting on Storage
Hello. I try to use Bacula 5.2.6 on Debian Linux. I have one storage (hard disk), one pool, job limit (on storage) = 10 and 20 clients. Volumes created automatically, and each job uses 1 volume. Schedule starts all 20 jobs for all 20 clients simultaneously. But only one really run: some jobs in waiting on Storage status, some in waiting on max Storage jobs. I want to configure bacula as follows: schedule starts all 20 jobs, but not more, than 10 simultaneously (storage job limit) can be in running state. And if one job finish work, then next job goes in runnig state. I hope I'm clearly outlined the basic idea - I do not quite understand the English language :) So, can I configure bacula so that it did what I needed? [Bacula-users] Bunch of files not being backed up
Hello srs, I've been working with bacula for close than 2 years although it's my first time writing here, but I'm falling apart. Today I noticed something really strange and I would like to know if it's a bug or something that others have noticed and has its own solution. I make a differential backup every day of the log files of all 30+ servers we own. They're placed on its common path: /var/log The sense says that everything inside /var/log will be backed up, and it happens to every server BUT one. With that server, bacula backs up all the files in /var/log, but I have a folder inside /var/log from which it just backs up the folder and not its content. I must say that this folder is already on all the other servers and it's backed up properly. I'm just shocked about it. I tried to restore both from webacula and from console and this folder is just empty! Have you ever been in this situation? Do you need any deeper data? Re: [Bacula-users] File volumes and scratch pool
Hi Ben, The settings you recommended yesterday worked and all expired volumes from all pools were moved to Scratch. Thanks. Now all my pools have volumes with data on them in compliance with the backup policy I setup. As soon as a volume expires it gets moved to Scratch. That means the Scratch pool is the only place where Bacula can find usable volumes when needed. Looking at the number of volumes in Scratch I can tell if I have enough for the nightly backup but this is rough estimate. To make sure there will be enough I usually will add 10-15 brand new ones in Scratch. These new volumes in Scratch I consider like safety buffer. Use them if needed but do not break the backup policy. Just because there are empty volumes with no data doesn't mean I want to keep data for longer then the policy defines. If I wanted to, then I would have changed the policy. My volumes are of type files so using new volumes vs recycling expired ones just fills up the file system with old data. It makes it hard to manage and forecast filesystem space needs. I have never understood Bacula's desire to override my policy and insist on preserving data that I already defined as useless. I guess I'm a control freak. Anyway. Thanks for the help. -- Peter On Wed, Oct 1, 2014 at 2:16 PM, Roberts, Ben ben.robe...@gsacapital.com wrote: Hi Peter, Bacula will always prefer to take a new volume (in Append state) rather than reuse an existing one (in the Purged, Recycled state) so as to preserve your backed up data for as long as possible. It will also use volumes in the backup pool and only resort to taking volumes from the Scratch pool when there are none suitable for writing in the pool. I’m not entirely certain which of those two criteria will win out; I think purged volumes in the backup pool will be used before Bacula tries to use an unused volume from the Scratch pool but you may wish to check this. I can understand why you’d want Bacula to reuse old volumes within one of your backup pools first (so as to maximise the number of volumes left in the scratch pool), but can’t see a reason why you’d prefer to reuse recycled volumes already moved back into the scratch pool before unused ones. If you did mean the latter, perhaps you can reply with your reasoning. On Wed, Oct 1, 2014 at 1:07 PM, Roberts, Ben ben.robe...@gsacapital.com wrote: Hi Peter, You need to set “Recycle Pool = Scratch” in your Scratch pool (and make sure you haven’t overridden it in any other poo)l. Note that this setting is applied to the volume when it’s created, so after changing the Scratch pool definition you will need to update all your volumes to re-apply the Recycle pool. It might be easiest to do this by directly modifying the catalog, else you can use a quick bash script to generate a sequence of “update volume…” commands to echo into bconsole. No filenames will be matched by this directive. Note, if *Exclude* is not enabled, the wild-card will select directories to be included. If *Exclude=yes* is specified, the wild-card will select which directories are to be excluded. Multiple wild-card directives may be specified, and they will be applied in turn until the first one that matches. Note, if you exclude a directory, no files or directories below it will be matched. It is recommended to enclose the string in double quotes. You may want to test your expressions prior to running your backup by using the bwild program. [Bacula-users] Dell autochanger not changing
The times they are a-changing, but my Dell Autochanger sure isn't... I'm working at getting an initial install of bacula up and running. My backup server is a Dell R510 running CentOS 7.0, which has bacula version 5.2.13-18 in the yum repository. I'm using mysql for the data base. We're going to be writing to a Dell ML6000 (a re-labeled IBM Ultrium TD6) with LTO-6 tapes, which hold 2.5TB native. There is one tape drive and 40 tape slots in the Dell autochanger, with 30 new, unused tapes in them. I've got the director successfully talking to the database and the local file daemon. I believe that the storage daemon is successfully talking to the autochanger and the tape drive because in bconsole, I was able to add the tapes to the Default pool: *add pool=Default storage=ML6000-LTO3-0 You probably don't want to be using this command since it creates database records without labeling the Volumes. You probably want to use the label command. Automatically selected Catalog: MyCatalog Using Catalog MyCatalog Enter number of Volumes to create. 0=fixed name. Re: [Bacula-users] Dell autochanger not changing
Hi Russ, First of all, you said that you have LTO-6 tapes. So, I recomend you specify it in your Device name definition, that will avoid some confusion in the future: Device { Name = ML6000-LTO6-0 ... } A second question is: don't you have barcodes? Are you sure you're going to work without barcode labels? If you're not going to work with barcodes, you should use the label command for labeling the tapes (before you should guarantee they are ready for labeling with mt -f /dev/st0 rewind and weof). The add command, as it tells you when you run it, doesn't labeled your volumes and you need this. So, use the label or label barcodes commands, they will label your volumes and records them corretly in the bacula catalog (MediaId, name, slot, inchanger flag, etc.) Regards, Ana On Thu, Oct 2, 2014 at 8:27 PM, Russ Button russ...@telmate.com wrote: The times they are a-changing, but my Dell Autochanger sure isn't... Re: [Bacula-users] Could not connect to Storage daemon
Hi David, Have you checked about scheduled events that could be leading your bacula-sd host unavailable at that time? Some kind of outage?
