Re: Do Notes sync?

2023-06-03 Thread Johnny Ragadoo
I used a BBEdit notebook file last week for creating copy for a pamphlet
formatted with Affinity Publisher. It was a very nice experience.

I used soft wrap with two returns to separate paragraphs. Before
copy-and-paste into Affinity text frames I used the Text->Remove Blank
Lines command. That let me edit with nice, natural paragraph breaks while
letting Affinity see one CR per paragraph break.

Restoring the file to edit mode is done with either a command-Z (undo) or
search-and-replace for one newline, replacing with two.

I think this is the first time I've used a notebook for anything other than
a quick experiment to see what it does.

Likely, this is how I will create Affinity Publisher documents in the
future. AP is cool, but it's a pain to compose in. Which is ok, that's not
what it's for.

How to divide subtitles (srt) in two lines

2023-06-03 Thread Otto Munters
An automatically translated subtitle in YouTube turns two lines in the
original language into one long sentence. How can I turn this back into two
sentences, the top sentence slightly shorter than the sentence below it. Is
there a grep for that? Or how do you do that with text factory?

Example output srt file YouTube:
1
00:00:33,360 --> 00:00:45,060
Welkom. Leuk om jullie allemaal te zien. We moeten de tijd nemen om

2
00:00:46,560 --> 00:00:52,380
de regels in te voeren. Net zoals jij ashram-regels hebt, hebben wij regels
voor zelfonderzoek.

It should look like this:
1
00:00:33,360 --> 00:00:45,060
Welkom. Leuk om jullie allemaal
te zien. We moeten de tijd nemen om

2
00:00:46,560 --> 00:00:52,380
de regels in te voeren. Net zoals jij ashram-
regels hebt, hebben wij regels voor zelfonderzoek.

Thanks a lot for your help!

There is no intrinsic syncing in BBEdit. You can create a Notebook in a synced
location (Dropbox, OneDrive, etc); or you can place BBEdit's support folder in
a synced location and the default notebook will sync. Otherwise, no. :-)

Do Notes sync?

2023-06-03 Thread Simdude
This is probably a really basic question on the Notes feature in Bbedit,
but do they sync between devices? I started using and took some notes on my
desktop. When I went to my laptop, I expected to see the same notes but did
not. Perhaps something in my setup?

1. Choose *Text -> Process lines containing…* from the BBEdit menu bar.

2. Change the default radio button so it reads

Find lines that [ ] contain [‧] do not contain:

3. Enter ‘\t\t’ (without the quote marks) in the text-entry field.

4. Check the [√] Grep checkbox.

5. uncheck [ ] Copy to clipboard.

6. check [√] Copy to new document.

7. click *Process* (or press *Return*).

The ‘few lines [that] don’t have tabs’ should appear in a new,
untitled, window.

Hope this helps,

Regards,

Brian Forte.

Make a copy of the file and replace

^.*\t.*\r

with nothihng. That should get rid of any lines with tabs in them.
