Re: [SlimDevices: Beta] Help us achieve an official 7.8.0 community release

2014-03-05 Thread Mark Miksis

I mentioned this in a different 7.8 thread, but no one else seemed to
have the same problem:

My current LMS is a Pi running raspian. When I switched to 7.8
nightlies, I started seeing constant rebuffering when playing AAC
streams via tunein. I haven't had time to investigate other than to try
switching to the allthingspi copy of faad, which solved the problem. I
don't know what's different about their faad, but it is much smaller.

Re: [SlimDevices: Beta] LMS 7.8 Nightlies

2013-12-09 Thread Mark Miksis

Anyone else running 7.8 nightlies on a Raspberry Pi with raspbian? I've
been happily running an old-ish version of 7.8 using the pre-built armhf
perl binaries at http://allthingspi.webspace.virginmedia.com/lms.php.
Now that Michael has added armhf support (Thanks Michael!), I finally
decided to upgrade to the latest 7.8 and try it out.

It works well except for one thing: If I play an AAC internet radio
stream, it rebuffers about once every minute or two. However, if I
replace the lms provided faad with the one from allthingspi, it works
fine. I have no idea what's special about their version of faad.

and the Revue? I'm ready to put together a 7.7-lms server on my old SBS

to test with the current release of the Revue... why should I bother?

Supposedly Honeycomb 3.1 for the Reveu will be released by the end of
September. There's already a leaked beta release of Honeycomb for the
Revue bouncing around the net, but it's very unstable. Do I need to
wait for some official Honeycomb release for the Revue before I can
start testing against LMS? There are a couple DLNA servers
(TVersity,TVMobili) that support the Revue, but I like the idea of
having one server to support both my SB3 and Revue.

I understand that no official announcement of LMS supporting the
Revue has been made... but is it taboo to discuss LMS and the Revue in
this beta forum? I seem to recall a couple post where LMS was mentioned
as a Logitech server for the Revue. Am I wrong?

Please let us know what you decide to do and how it works out. In my
experience, the production Revue firmware is quite broken as a Media
Player (many common formats and containers simply won't play). I've
heard that the HC leak has a better media player but broken Netflix.

Most of this is probably independent of the server used. If the Revue
Media Player ever gets fixed, I'd love to use LMS instead of miniDLNA
as my server. I probably won't invest any time in testing LMS until
working Revue firmware is available.

When friends using various HTPC and other homebrew solutions look at my

I believe that SbS checks at startup and then every 12 hours for new
firmware for all players. Once downloaded, your player will then
prompt you to install it.

Recently, this has been somewhat less than deterministic due to the
problems with the CDN. Sometimes update.slimdevices.com will point to
a server with the latest firmware, sometimes it won't.

2010-03-22 Thread Mark Miksis

I finally got around to trying 7.5-embedded on my Sheevaplug (arm,
Ubuntu) and I think I'm seeing the same problem as pippin. The server
seems to start fine with no errors. Port 9000 seems to respond to
everything with a 404, but it does listen and respond. I haven't had
time to investigate further yet.

Yes, as we've done before, this will be checked in right before release,
so the final build points to production MySB.

So after SbS 7.5 is released, which mySB will the SbS 7.5embedded
nightly's point to?

Re: [SlimDevices: Beta] Does voting really help ?

2009-10-12 Thread Mark Miksis

My personal opinion is that this is also a bit of a chicken and egg
problem. We need more people to vote. If one bug has 5 votes and
another has 8, it's really hard to say that is a statistically
significant difference. Please vote early and often :)

The short answer is yes and yes. The longer answer is that we
currently have a situation where the same users sometimes have different
usernames and/or email addresses on
forums/bugzilla/wiki/campfire/mySB.com/etc. Some users probably even do
this because of some perceived security and/or anonymity. It won't be
easy to reconcile all of this. Suggestions for short and long term
goals are more than welcome though.

Re: [SlimDevices: Beta] Controller Full Screen Mode

I think this option was removed because the new SBC NP screen now
displays full screen artwork with the footer icons overlaid. What would
you expect this option to do given the new NP design?

It's a well known fact that wider screens make crayon drawings look

I think this is great. Isn't there also already a plan to ease
upgrades? I can't remember, but what happens if a user upgrades from SC
7.3.3 to SBS 7.4 and already has valid Rhapsody credentials entered in
SN? Will they still need to manually install the Rhapsody App?

Re: [SlimDevices: Beta] Unable to upgrade 7.4.27933 to 7.4.28205 ? with the rpm build

2009-08-18 Thread Mark Miksis

The Linux packages ae being renamed from squeezecenter to
squeezeboxserver. It looks like something is broken in the RPM that
causes the new package to not emove the old one. I can't test it right
now, but my guess is that until we fix this it should work if you
manually do rpm -e squeezecenter before you install the
squeezeboxsever rpm.

I'm not 100% certain, but I don't think holding + during a reboot will
do a factory reset. If you remove the battery, press-hold +, and then
insert the battery, that will work.

I'll leave the thread open for now in case any of the original
