Re: [Bikies] Cottage Grove Rd at PBMVC Tuesday

2015-10-28 Thread Grant Foster via Bikies
Status update on this project from PBMVC meeting:

Original plan called for two 11' lanes (plus turn lanes) and a 4'
unbuffered bike lane in each direction.

Draft plan was updated to show one 10' lane, one 11' lane, and a 5'
unbuffered bike lane in each direction.

TE is looking at the possibility of two 10' lanes, a 2' buffer, and a 4'
bike lane in each direction.

This final option is dependent on the amount of truck traffic that uses
this roadway currently and also contingent upon WIDOT's approval. If truck
traffic is low enough, there is hope that we can get approval for the two
10' treatment which would allow for the bike buffer.

Part of the constraints with this project is that approximately 1/4 of the
project roadway has the 2-lane, 4' bike lane treatment installed with
gutters (completed at the the time of Grandview Commons construction and
installed by the developer). If we were to start from scratch, there would
likely be an opportunity to expand the right of way slightly to accommodate
a 10', 11', 3' buffer, 5' bike lane approach.

I did request at the meeting that if we are unsuccessful in getting
approval for the newest concept that includes the bike lane buffer, that we
evaluate the cost to update the existing section (replace the curb) in
order to accommodate a bike buffer throughout the project area.

The 4' lane and 2' buffer is not exactly ideal, but would be a significant
improvement and should be workable as a solution.

that long hill up Cottage Grove Rd. is a deterrent to many, especially the
non-Spandex commandos.
