[Ontbirds] Rough-Legged Hawk. Ottawa west. Carling/Rifle Road intersection. Fermer's field.

2009-01-18 Thread Mykhaylo Lytvynyuk
Spotted gliding over farmer field when I was driving towards Kanata after
taking picture of NHO at Grandview. Initially I wans't sure what king of hawk
is that but luckyly I took picture, not a good quality because subject was very
shy. Picture helped to identify subject like Rough-Legged Hawk.

[Ontbirds] Loggerhead Shrike Ottawa, Mud Lalke

2009-04-06 Thread Mykhaylo Lytvynyuk

Last Sunday afternoon accidentally spotted gray bird, which turn out to be
Loggerhead shrike. Never saw those guys before, luckily took couple shots and
now can tell this was loggerhead shrike.

Bird allow me to stare at it from approximately 7 meters, but because it was
sitting in heavy bushes identification and photography were hard task.

Location: Bird was spotted at dense bushes at the most eastern entrance to Mud
Lake, where small pond is, behind the fallen willow tree.

[Ontbirds] Wrong Identification of Loggerhead shrike in my previous port. It is N Shrike.

2009-04-06 Thread Mykhaylo Lytvynyuk

After reading many articles and especially this one -
http://www.birds.cornell.edu/crows/loggerhd.htm which shows birds from
different sides and compare them I must confirm that specie I previously
identified like Loggerhead is a N Shrike.

I'm sorry for confusion.

At least I will report sighing of N Shrike in the area.
