Tonight I had change to see 3 COMMON FLICKERS had mating games at the top of the tree. Never saw this before, was quite interesting. More common was couple RUBY-CROWNED KINGLET and bunch of SONG SPARROW also bunch of WOOD DUCK. Direction: Going from west: Take exit 129 toward Greenbank Rd/Pinecrest Rd/Ch. Greenbank/Ch. Spotted gliding over farmer field when I was driving towards Kanata after taking picture of NHO at Grandview. Initially I wans't sure what king of hawk is that but luckyly I took picture, not a good quality because subject was very shy. [Ontbirds] Loggerhead Shrike Ottawa, Mud Lalke
Last Sunday afternoon accidentally spotted gray bird, which turn out to be Loggerhead shrike. Never saw those guys before, luckily took couple shots and now can tell this was loggerhead shrike. Bird allow me to stare at it from approximately 7 meters, but because it was sitting in heavy bushes identification and photography were hard task. [Ontbirds] Wrong Identification of Loggerhead shrike in my previous port. It is N Shrike.
After reading many articles and especially this one - http://www.birds.cornell.edu/crows/loggerhd.htm which shows birds from different sides and compare them I must confirm that specie I previously identified like Loggerhead is a N Shrike. [Ontbirds] Feb 15th, Ottawa West: Bald Eagles, Big Flock of Turkeys.
During random driving around Dunrobin yesterday I saw 2 Bald eagles having lunch on something. Was too far to tell what was their meal. I was quite excited because it first time in my life I saw bald eagles not on the picture :) Few hours later driving by Carling av. in west direction, in the forest just after the railroad bridge I saw quite a flock of turkeys couldn't count exactly but It was group of about 25+ birds.
