Installed, and I rebuilt xfce4-session. No problems, and no extra
options when logging out. Also no problem with then logging in with
xfce, so I'll keep it in my script.

This testing is fun, isn't it.

OK. I managed to use thunar-volman to (as a user) open a file from
a usb stick which was using one of the windows formats.

I only installed xfce because it is what I will be using on my
laptop when I rebuild that (current 9.1 works adequately there).

It's recommended for xfce4-session (and also at runtime for thunar-
volman). I guess you get more options when logging out if you use it.
But I have not used xfce for a long time.

Thanks. I've been using xfce on one system, but without
polkit-gnome. Didn't realise that was expected to be in use for

The problem is in the registering of authentication agents. So it
occurs only when launching one of those (we have a list of them on the
polkit page). I've tested lxpolkit and the one integrated with gnome-
shell. I guess it would have shown up when launching kde (polkit-kde-
agent from plasma) or xfce (polkit-gnome) too...

Aug 20 23:20:32 leshp klogd: <38>[ 29.780068] elogind-daemon[1163]: New

and the Xorg log is in .local:

-rw-r--r-- 1 ken users 50091 Aug 21 03:40 .local/share/xorg/Xorg.0.log.old

Without this patch, it was discovered that LXDE was failing to run
properly (it was trying to register sessions with ConsoleKit), which
also meant that lxpolkit didn't work. A similar problem happened with
GNOME, although IIRC it was something regarding polkit authorization in
there as well. Pierre can probably explain it better than I can since he
was the one who discovered it.

I agree. I didn't use the patch and things are working for me. So far
I only have twm and xfce installed (kde later today).

In my log I do have:

Package systemd was not found in the pkg-config search path.
Perhaps you should add the directory containing `systemd.pc'
to the PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment variable
No package 'systemd' found

but later:

Session tracking: libelogind
PAM support:yes
systemdsystemunitdir:
polkitd user: polkitd

In ~/.local/share/xorg/Xorg.0.log is:

(II) systemd-logind: took control of session
/org/freedesktop/login1/session/_31

(II) systemd-logind: got fd for /dev/dri/card0 226:0 fd 10 paused 0

(II) systemd-logind: got fd for /dev/input/event1 13:65 fd 26 paused 0
(II) systemd-logind: got fd for /dev/input/event0 13:64 fd 29 paused 0

and several similar messages.
