[Blind-Computing] Question About USB Ports

2013-02-08 Thread Pedro Romero
Hello all.
My friend is using Jaws twelve and Windows 7. She recently purchased a USB
sound card 7.1 pro made by SIIG.
Incidentally, this sound card came with software which she did not install
because she simply wants to use this in order to separate Jaws from the output
to her speakers.
After then plugging a headset in to the headphone jack on the external sound
card, she went to the Jaws window and then to the sound card submenu and
checked the new sound card but Jaws continues to come out of her speakers
rather than her headset.
Since it didn't work, she unplugged the sound card from her computer and
received a message that said something about her USB port not being strong
enough for the device.
(Sorry, I don't recall the actual wording.)
My questions are these,
could it be that this new sound card was designed for USB 3.0 and if so, can
she purchase a USB 3.0 port and use it in her Windows 7 machine?
Any help would be appreciated.

However, I am now unable to install Microsoft Security Essentials. Instead,

[Blind-Computing] Deleting Gmail inbox using Outlook Express

2012-02-17 Thread Pedro Romero
Hello all. I receive my gmail messages through Outlook Express but have been
manually deleting those messages from my Gmail inbox. Is there a way I can
delete the messages in my Gmail inbox using Outlook Express? If not, is there a
setting in Gmail where I can have the messages deleted from the inbox once they
have been received by Outlook Express?

Re: [Blind-Computing] Gmail Anyone Having Problems

2011-08-26 Thread Pedro Romero
Hi Mike. I generally access my Gmail account using Outlook Express; however,
when I use the web interface, I have noticed that in the past several days I
have had to go to the link for screen reader users that says Basic HTML.
Once I enter on that link it works just fine. If I don't, I am not able to
navigate to my inbox, contacts or spam.
Interestingly enough, if I don't go to HTML view, I keep seeing the message
that says:

It looks like you have enabled Internet Explorer Compatibility View.
As far as I know, I have done nothing to activate this compatibility view
mode.

[Blind-Computing] Backing Up E-mails To SD Card

2011-08-03 Thread Pedro Romero
Hello all: I am currently using Outlook Express and have some e-mails that I
would hate to lose; hence the need to back them up.
One folder, for instance, has 565 e-mails in it.
Question: How do I back these up to an SD card?
Do I first have to convert them to text files?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Angelina.

From the inbox, Press alt+V

then arrow down to sort by submenueand press enter. Now use your down
arrow key to select how you want messages sorted. Once you find it, press
enter.

Now you will be back at the inbox so again, press alt+v and again arrow down
to Sort by submenu and press enter again.

Now use your arrow keys to determine whether you want messages in ascending
or descending order.

To select, press enter and you'll be back at the inbox again and messages
should be sorted correctly.

Hope this helps.

Re: [Blind-Computing] 32 bit setting in win 7?

2011-03-28 Thread Pedro Romero
Hi Karen. According to Rich's response, my understanding is that this can be
done. However, I have pasted his response below just to be on the safe side.

Jaws works with 64 bit but you must install the 64-bit version. All
MP3's will work in 64 bit. Most programs that you run in current 32 bit
will also work in 64 bit. There may be a few that you will need to
operate in 32-bit mode under Windows 7, but I have found that not to be
a significant problem. Your address book is another issue, that depends
on what Email program you use. 64 bit is the wave of the future and we
are all pretty much forced to go along with it or be left behind. You
would not want to buy a new computer at this point that was anything
less than Windows 7, 64 bit. The specs of the one you are considering
look fine to me, but perhaps more knowledgeable people can give their
opinions..

[Blind-Computing] 32 bit versus 64 bit

2011-03-27 Thread Pedro Romero
Hi all. Well the subject pretty much says it all.
I am currently using a desktop 32 bit computer running Windows XP.
I am now contemplating purchasing a laptop 64 bit machine and am wondering if
Jaws 12 will work with it.
I am also wondering what the advantages are of using 64 versus 32 bit.
Will i be able to transfer my addressbook to the new computer though the laptop
will not have Outlook Express?
Will my mp3's created with the 32 bit machine work with the new computer?
I would probably also get Windows 7 ®professional edition as opposed to home
premium.
If interested, here are the specs on the computer I'm thinking of purchasing.
Thanks.
