Hi there. When I tried to use the Avast 5.0 Free Antivirus, it was

[Blind-Computing] Uninstalling Avast 4 Home Edition.

2010-01-15 Thread Stanley Smith
Hi. I would like to uninstall Avast 4 Home Edition and have downloaded their
uninstall utility. But I understand that this will have to be done in safe
Mode, and I have Windows XP Professional SP3 on my machine. I also
understand that I won't have Jaws when I uninstall Avast. What is the best
way to uninstall Avast. I would like to go with Microsoft Security
Essentials as my replacement. Thanks.

Hey, thanks a lot for the additional info. Yes indeed, Revo is just super.
It does what Add/Remove Programs doesn't do and does a much better job of

system, but after I restarted the computer Avast was still in the system
tray, which is what happened this time.

Hey George, so sorry to hear about this. Now it's time for sighted
assistance with that captia. After your sighted friend tells you what you
need to type in on the registration page, I would email them one more time
and tell them your situation one more time and that they haven't gotten back
to you like they said they would, and that you had to get sighted help
because of their lack of coming through to help you. Hopefully this will
spur them on to be more careful the next time a blind person needs help with
the captia on the registration page.

Re: [Blind-Computing] Question about Avast

2008-04-05 Thread Stanley Smith
I'm not sure what the dummy checkbox stands for, but I think it all has to
do with the skins that load when you start Avast. As for scheduling (I may
be wrong), it is only in the paid version of the program. You can schedule
a boot time scan, but not a regular scan. Someone please correct me on this
if I'm wrong. You can turn the skins off so they won't come up, but Avast
will start up without the skins and will be much easier to get around in
without them.
