Re: [Blind-Computing] startup menue in W7

2011-07-07 Thread Jacob Kruger
Well, while I have 3 computers, they're mine, so sighted people are limited
to what I'll even let them try doing...

As in if they ask me if they can check their webmail, I will turn off jaws
etc., but aside from that, they don't honestly get to do much more than have
me show them things, or copy things for them, etc., and if someone like my
mother asks me to help her with something on her computer, I'll either just
give her a quick answer, or do something like plug my portable NVDA flash
drive in and look into it myself, etc.

Other 'funny' one is to boot some sighted person's computer up from my
bootable Ubuntu vinux flash drive, since they then don't even recognise
their own computer, but that's more of a joke I might play on them, etc.

I don't understand how anybody with sight can realistically use JAWS. Most
users primarily use the mouse, and causes all sorts of difficulties as JAWS
constantly takes control of the focus. Browsing the web is probably the
worst. My now grown children have never been able to use my computer with
JAWS running. Furthermore, I can not even install JAWS on their computers
because some of their games do not work with the JAWS display drivers
installed.

Hi, Jacob,

The only sighted nephew who doesn't turn off my screen reader is Lucas.
He always tells me what's going on but my other nephew Dave never did. I
don't ask Dave to fix any computer problem I might have anymore. I have

Hi, John,

I don't blame you for being careful when it comes to letting just
anybody use your computer. Sometimes you even have to be careful with
some family members. One time I had a sighted nephew work on my
computer and when I asked him what he was doing, he wouldn't tell me.
He never put porn sites on my computer or anything like that but it
still bugs me when they don't tell you what they're doing.

I had a rehearsal and was bringing up the words to a song when my

told me.

After the computer was running for about five minutes, a picture of a
woman's breasts appeared with a link below it that said, "To see

I was very embarrassed to say the least.
Apparently, my so-called friend had been visiting one of the X rated

I'm assuming the game itself is actually opening up. To fix this There's a
few solutions:

1. Start Menu:

a. Activate the Start button
b. then go to All Programs,
c. Then go to Startup.
d. Right-click the game in the Startup folder e. Select Delete to remove it
from the Startup folder.

2. MSCONFIG Settings:

a. Hold the Windows key and press R to open the Run window.
b. Type "msconfig" and press "Enter".
c. Click the "Startup" tab.
d. Uncheck any startup program you don't want to run during startup.
e. Click "OK".

You can then choose to restart your computer immediately or later.

3. The Program Itself:

a. Either you or your youngin' open the program you wish to disable from
running at startup.
b/ Look for its Options or Preferences.
c. Browse through these options for an option to "Run Program at Startup."
Disable it.

Hi, John,

I don't blame you for being careful when it comes to letting just anybody
use your computer. Sometimes you even have to be careful with some family
members. One time I had a sighted nephew work on my computer and when I
asked him what he was doing, he wouldn't tell me. He never put porn sites
on my computer or anything like that but it still bugs me when they don't
tell you what they're doing.

Ok, on start menu, I arrow up once from search box, arrow right once, arrow
down like twice, and hit S T quickly, and it highlights the startup menu
item, right arrow to expand it, and there you might find items set to start
up automatically on windows startup.

I think on that first part of the windows7 start menu, it just ranks the
most used icons etc., but I pretty much always arrow up from search box,
then right arrow once on all programs submenu, and then arrow down a bit
before hitting the first letter of the item I'm actually looking for.

As in, don't think your son really changed anything specifically, but
windows is assuming that since that game has been started a few times,

2011-07-06 Thread Kimberly Qualls
Okay!

Thanks to all of you for your help...The game is gone and I'm much happier
with the youngin...lol...
I recently got a new computer, so I imagine you all will get tired of
hearing my questions...I have been reading the list for a while now, and
there a LOT of very knowledgable people on here, thank goodness...Myself, I
am grateful for it..

Thanks again for your time and info

I'm assuming the game itself is actually opening up. To fix this There's a
few solutions:

1. Start Menu:

a. Activate the Start button
b. then go to All Programs,
c. Then go to Startup.
d. Right-click the game in the Startup folder e. Select Delete to remove it
from the Startup folder.

2. MSCONFIG Settings:

a. Hold the Windows key and press R to open the Run window.
b. Type "msconfig" and press "Enter".
c. Click the "Startup" tab.
d. Uncheck any startup program you don't want to run during startup.
e. Click "OK".

You can then choose to restart your computer immediately or later.

3. The Program Itself:

a. Either you or your youngin' open the program you wish to disable from
running at startup.
b/ Look for its Options or Preferences.
c. Browse through these options for an option to "Run Program at Startup."
Disable it.

2011-07-06 Thread Kimberly Qualls
Jacob,

Actually it's not on the start menue at all, and I can't find it in my
"programs & features" to uninstall it...Maybe I'm wrong in calling it the
"startup menue", but the game site comes up automatically when I turn the
computer on...Sorry if I'm explaining it badly, but I still haven't found a
way to get rid of this
Now his grounding is only a week from the computer...lol..

Thanks for the help

I think on that first part of the windows7 start menu, it just ranks the
most used icons etc., but I pretty much always arrow up from search box,
then right arrow once on all programs submenu, and then arrow down a bit
before hitting the first letter of the item I'm actually looking for.

As in, don't think your son really changed anything specifically, but
windows is assuming that since that game has been started a few times, it's
likely to be popular/wanted.

Stay well
