[board-discuss] Self nomination for Membership Committee: Ahmad Haris

2022-08-24 Thread ahmad haris
Dear Members & Board of Directors of The Document Foundation,

I'm Ahmad Haris, a FOSS Activist who was born and lives in Indonesia. I
started learning OOo in 2007 as a user, then from 2008 until 2010 I had the
chance to help the local government of Aceh Province to use Open Source
Software including OOo.

I am also active at BlankOn Linux which is a local linux distribution, the
famous one in Indonesia. And become Release Manager for 5 years until 2017.
Other than BlankOn, I am also active at openSUSE Indonesia Community.

2017 is my starting point to contributing to LibreOffice locally. Preparing
a new community (LibreOffice Indonesia) and preparing LibreOffice
Conference Indonesia - 2018 as a starting point to contribute globally. The
mission of the local community is to encourage people to use LibreOffice
and contribute back. So we organize several local events for Translation
and QA workshops.

During the pandemic as MC, I try to keep in touch with the local community
so we can still do something even if it's limited, such as helping users
with answering their questions in telegram groups.

When the pandemic seems to have ended in Indonesia, we become more
energetic to create offline events such as LibreOffice Workshop and Meetup.

One of my personal goals with LibreOffice is helping several local
communities to actively use LibreOffice with their local (traditional)
character.

Why I'm nominating myself as MC:
I'm interested in encouraging local people to contribute to upstream
projects in many ways that they are able to do, even if they have problems
in language.
I'm still thinking I have a duty to do that until someone in the new
generation takes over me.

Also working with TDF makes my experience better.

-- 75 word statement --
My goal for next term is to reactivate local communities to contribute in
several ways, such as translation, design, QA or workshop. To make it
happen, working together with local communities around the world and TDF
will make it more possible than working alone. With me becoming MC can help
local communities more understand the situation in TDF and vice versa. On
the other hand, regeneration of contributors will be the most challenging
task to do.

Some people probably do not read this mailing list too much (like me,
sorry). The newer generation below me dislike mailing lists.

In my experience, here what I do:
* active in community, if you can't active physically because of busy with
daily job, you can donate/support their activity, in Indonesian community,
we often have some challenge to community and there is a prize for the
winner. you can donate the prize if you feel busy and can't help much.
* give a good example and impression how we use libreoffice and how to
contribute in the easiest way to the community.
* have good manners to newcomers, sometimes arrogant also needed but still,
we must help newcomers.
* create a conference. I (with help of the community) often create open
source conferences. Of course we have held a libreoffice indonesia
conference before with more than 500 audience. This year's conference
failed because covid-19
* exhibition booth. be happy and set up booths in as many exhibitions as
possible. you will have a lot of questions and answers at that booth.
* create a workshop about libreoffice, it can be user (how to use)
workshop, translation, and QA.
* Gave a talk in university or any organization.

And we lack (never happen at least in Indonesia) about coding/UX workshops
for libreoffice.

Please explain more about the term "marginal".

Anything, in my case, local community have:
* https://glosarium.libreoffice.id/ to help translation
* https://docs.libreoffice.id/ for record activity (it's like readme
actually)
* https://lumbung.libreoffice.id/ for saving slide, theme and template

I can't remember it, but I do encourage several people who are active in
the community (from Indonesia and Malaysia).

Many, especially if I know the applicant. Mostly I know in person if they
are from SouthEast Asia.

I have no idea about this. But I often have questions from students "what
would be the benefit if we become a member?"

In my case, I will validate if I know the person. If no, I ask another MC
to verify it. If still nobody knows, then one of MC will send them an email
asking more questions.

It can be transparent if there's good tools. Some discussions are in MC
telegram groups. IMHO it doesnt need to be totally transparent, of course
there's reporting. But people can ask. Probably need to discuss more about
"the transparent thing"?

2020-08-27 Thread ahmad haris
Dear members & Board of Directors of The Document Foundation,

I'm a candidate in the next elections to the Membership Committee.

Who am I:

I’m Ahmad Haris from Bogor, West Java, Indonesia. A family man, half
musician and a director of technology in a private company. I’ve been in
the FOSS community since 2007, active both in Ubuntu Indonesia and openSUSE
Indonesia since I understand about FOSS until now. Become director of
BlankOn Linux distribution for 5 years then retire to become leader of
Ridon Project (Android based project) for 3 years. I also active in GNOME
Foundation/GNOME Indonesia Community for last 6 years, and in LibreOffice
Indonesia Community in last 4 years most of members know me as “supreme
leader”.

In my daily life, both as professional and personal, I actively promote
LibreOffice. I also became a Membership Committee for the last 2 years.

I’m willing to continue as a Membership Committee because I love to connect
with the community around the world and continue my journey to promote
FOSS, including LibreOffice.

-- # --

Full name: Ahmad Haris

Email address: ha...@libreoffice.org / ahmadharis1...@gmail.com

Affiliation: Independent

My 75 words official candidacy statement:

I nominate myself as MC again to continue my idealism and my passion to
promote FOSS including LibreOffice, helping newcomers to contribute to
upstream projects with their different ways.

I want to encourage people joining LibreOffice both in the local community
and International Community. Reach all communities who have in touch with
me as possible even if it is not an IT based community. Also actively
promoting LibreOffice in Asia, not only in where I live, Indonesia.
