Unfortunately, our recent experience has demonstrated that serous bugs are
often not obvious. Because of the large number of changes between 7.8.2 and
master, I would prefer to see a 7.8.3 with a shorter alpha testing period so we
can get these critical bug fixes out, followed by the 7.9 built with all the
changes in master for more extensive testing.

I think there are enough serious bug fixes needed that a 7..8.3 "bug fix" /
"hot fix" version is warranted.

But that is just my opinion.

Cheers,

At this point master has lots of fixes and nothing obviously destabilizing.
Should we go for a 7.10 release rather than 7.8.3?

at the same time? We ran into a big problem with CPDN about 10 days after
v7.8.2 was released, which demonstrated exactly that problem.

Re: [boinc_dev] 7.10 release

2017-09-29 Thread Charlie Fenton
Hi Richard,

I quickly read through the very long thread and I may have missed something,
but I don't understand why he would need to run something in the Terminal
window. Terminal is the command-line interface to the UNIX underlying Mac OS X.
If I read the thread correctly, he needs to edit the client_state.xml file:
> The only way to recover from this for me has been to edit client_state.xml
> and remove all entries related to the crashed task.
or:
> deleting account_climateprediction.net.xml from BOINC's data directory

I would strongly recommend the second option, as it is very easy to seriously
mess up the client_state.xml file if you make a mistake editing it.

Note also that if he does modify any file in the BOINC_Data directory with a
text editor, he will probably need to fix the file owner, group and
permissions. There are two ways to do this:

 * Run the BOINC Mac installer again. I wrote it so it doubles as a tool to fix
BOINC's permissions.
 * Run the Mac_SA_Secure.sh script from
. This does require using
Terminal.

Cheers,
--Charlie

Re: [boinc_dev] Update to latest revision changed menu to BOSSA

2017-09-29 Thread yoyo
Found it.

In the past I copied (as proposed) the sample_navbar() into my own
project.inc. There I had to change

if (defined('NO_COMPUTING')) {
into
if (NO_COMPUTING) {

since NO_COMPUTING is now defined in util.inc as
define('NO_COMPUTING', false);

[boinc_dev] Update to latest revision changed menu to BOSSA

2017-09-29 Thread yoyo
Hello,

after updating to the latest source version, the Participate menu
contains now BOSSA entries and the old menu structure went away:
-> https://yafu.myfirewall.org/yafu/index.php

Somehow the web part thinks it is a BOSSA project.

What changed, what is wrong?
