RE: Cameras / Mics

2018-05-04 Thread David Jenkins
Jon,

I’m very sorry, but I’m not able to come to the conference. The situation at
work has gotten worse and there’s no way I can leave. The conference program
looks so good too. I hate to miss it.

If there is anything I can do to help with facilities from Connecticut, let me
know. Feel free to call my cell phone if you have a question.

Sorry,

Dave Jenkins

Jon,

If the microphones and cameras aren’t in Marshall’s closet, I suspect they’re
in the ACP basement. I checked, and I don’t have them.

On another note, I am very busy at work and there’s a possibility that I won’t
be allowed to leave. Is there anyone else who could take over facilities if I
can’t make it? I’m still hopeful, but I thought you should know the situation.

Thanks,

Dave

Dave, Marshall,

Since Bash Films is again doing our recording, we don’t need our three cameras,
but we may need one. Where are the three cameras that the conference owns?

One reason that we might need one is that we’ll again film an episode of
Cpp.chat at C++Now. We did this last year and used a conference camera. We also
had a microphone that we passed to speakers. But I don’t know where the
microphone came from. Does the conference own any mics? Do you know where it
came from?

Another reason that we might need a camera is to shot video of attends making
endorsements.

We also need to think about having a “throwing” mic. This is discussed every
year during the planning meeting, but we never actually order one. Do you know
what we’d need? If we just order something like this:

 <https://www.buyqball.com/> https://www.buyqball.com/

 <https://getcatchbox.com/> https://getcatchbox.com/

Is that all we need to do?

Jon

Re: Cameras / Mics

2018-05-02 Thread Robin Kuzmin
The ball mics are needed not that much for recording the QUESTIONS
but more for recording the DISCUSSIONS, when the audience talks even more than
the Speaker does, and the "right to talk" quickly passes from one part of the
room to the other and back randomly.
In the discussion cases REPEATING THE QUESTION by the Speaker is not an option.
Passing around the FRAGILE wireless mic slows down the discussion.
Throwing the ball mic is the rescue.

That’s pretty much my thought, too.
For the sessions in Paepcke, have the ball.

For sessions in Bethe and/or Hudson, I don’t think we need it.
For Flug, it could be useful.

My suggestion would be if the room is small enough that you do not need
amplification speakers - just have the presenter repeat the audience questions.
For the larger room we would take the audio from the sound board - and if you
buy the throwing ball mic - no problem, we will be able to capture it.

Hi Phil,

In the case of a small room, which does not have amplification speakers or a
sound board - our individual wireless mic is connected directly to the camera
for recording. The wireless mic is connected via a XLR input on the camera.
There is a single connection per wireless mic.

Best,

Re: Cameras / Mics

2018-04-29 Thread Mark Bashian
Hi Team -

THROWING BALL / RECORDING INTEGRATION
- Think of the throwing ball mic as just a regular handheld mic that would be
passed around for Q

- If this ball is utilized in the main room that has A/V support, meaning there
is a sound board where multiple mics could be plugged in (such as every room at
CppCon) we are able to record from it (because we get the audio from the sound
boards.)

- At C++ NOW, some of the rooms do not have a sound board, and we record the
presenter audio by using our own wireless mics. For these types of rooms we
would NOT be able to utilize the ball mic.

In summary, if there is a sound board with multiple inputs running to PA
speakers to amplify the speaker, it is easy to integrate the ball mic. For
smaller rooms where there is no speaker amplification and we are using our own
wireless mics, we would not be able to record from the ball mic.

All the best,
Mark Bashian
