It's a new form of napping called lapping . You heard it here first!

I could see this being used in boring church services for children.

Winter lightening

2004-12-23 Thread Gary Nunn
During a snowstorm last night, that dumped 14 inches of snow and ice on
Central Ohio, I was driving home and suddenly lightening struck a utility
pole about 100 feet from me. There was a huge thunderclap and sparks floated
down in slow motion with the snow.

I have heard thunder during snowstorms before, but I have never seen
lightening during a snowstorm, and I have never seen lightening strike
something so close in proximity..

Of course had it happened in July, I would not have thought twice about it.
But with the snow , the proximity and the small pyrotechnic show, it was
amazing.

Week 16 NFL Picks

2004-12-23 Thread John D. Giorgis
I went a disappointing 9-7 last week to go 132-92 on the year. The
Upset Special dropped to 6-9 on the year, after Detroit's snapper blew an
extra point attempt, and I was a gutless wimp and didn't go with my
sneaking suspicion that the suddenly playing-better-than-you-think Dolphins
could pull off an improbable upset on Monday Night.

Green Bay at Minnesota - The Jaguars exposed the Packers' defense once and
for all last week. (Thanks for nothing Green Bay!) As a result, despite
Minnesota's best efforts, they won't blow the division title this year.
Pick: VIKINGS

Oakland at Kansas City - Speaking of bad defense's, the Chiefs are about to
become the first NFL team to score 450+ points and not have a winning
record. Still, it should be good enough for this one... Pick: CHIEFS

Denver at Tennessee - The three early games this week showcase a handful of
the worst defenses in the League, the latest being the Titans' abysmal
group. Fortunately, the Broncos are absolutely imploding down the stretch
run here, and Jeff Fisher's group always comes to play. Pick: TITANS

Houston at Jacksonville - I am convinced that the only team giving the
Patriots a run for the title of luckiest team in football will eventually
have their comeuppance. If David Carr can hang onto the football in a win
that Brett Favre could not last week, they could pull the upset here. Ring
those cowbells!!! Pick: TEXANS

Chicago at Detroit - The Lions are suddenly playing much better, and
amazingly enough, the battered Bears really do miss Craig Krenzel. What a
crazy year... Pick: LIONS

San Diego at Indianapolis - The loser of this game is guaranteed the #4 AFC
playoff seed, and while this has been a great run for the Chargers, the
Colts are playing at just another level of football of late, on offense and
defense. Pick: COLTS

Atlanta at New Orleans - Nobody knows who is going to play this game for
Atlanta, now that they are locked into the #2 NFC seed. Pick: FALCONS
Just because.

Baltimore at Pittsburgh - The Steelers know that they can clinch the #1 AFC
Seed with a win, and they have always had Baltimore's number. No way that
they blow this one. Pick: STEELERS

New York Giants at Cincinnati - Jon Kitna was absolutely atrocious for the
Bengals last week, and it looked to me like Eli Manning might have finally
turned the corner. The Bengals' soft defense might be the recipe for
Eli's first win as a starter. Pick: GIANTS UPSET SPECIAL

New England at New York Jets - The Jets have been waiting all year for this
game, and with Charlie Weiss thinking more about the Golden Dome than the
Meadowlands, and Tom Brady throwing lame ducks into the air, the Patriots
look more vulnerable than ever. I'll be rooting for the Patriots, but...
Pick: JETS

Buffalo at San Francisco - The Bills have to travel out to the West Coast
on Christmas Day. Could they be a little distracted?Well, yeah.
Will it matter?I can't imagine it against the literally decimated
49ers. Pick: BILLS

Arizona at Seattle - If you can figure out what Seattle is going to do this
week, or what QB Dennis Green is going to go with, then you are a smarter
person than I.I wouldn't be shocked to see Josh McCown and company get
Mike Holmgren fired in Seattle, but I'll go with the percentage play
Pick: SEAHAWKS

Carolina at Tampa Bay - The mantra of any NFC Team's playoff hopes this
season has been: We're not dead yet! Pick: PANTHERS

Washington at Dallas - The Cowboys always have Washington's number, and
unlike everyone else down here, I'm not about to be impressed by beating up
on San Francisco. Pick: COWBOYS

Cleveland at Miami - The difference between playing with pride, and utterly
embarassing your franchise. Pick: DOLPHINS

Philadelphia at St. Louis - Marc Bulger coming back should keep St. Louis'
playoff hopes alive. Pick: RAMS
