No imps, just some server kobolds and the occasional troll.

It may take you a year to read. Editing is not his middle name but if you
enjoyed Crytonimonicom (one of my all time favorite SF books) you will enjoy
these as well. Weaved into his fantastical tale his view of the birth of the
modern world. The amount of info he gives is enormous; sometimes too enormous
but in the end both instructive and entertaining

Wow - was the article that long? I would have just linked to it if I
had realized that! Sorry about that!

Heh. I dunno about that. I bet the Libertarian
 convention is a real ringer...

This account of the goings-on at the LP convention makes it seem
 pretty interesting/eventful.

Due to the vagaries of the voting process, a back-room deal, and the
 fact that the
two front-runners apparently hated each other, the nomination ended up
 going to the
3rd-place guy, who had refused to pay income taxes for years and also
 refused to
get a driver's license, among other interesting tidbits.

Not sure why but I got this one just now. That's almost two days after
it was send. It happens often that things don't arrive in the order in
which they were send but this is becoming absurd. :o(

GCU: Peculiar preferences of the server

1) The server wasn't sending things properly for awhile.

2) That post was longer than would go through automatically; it was
around 60K, and there's a limit of 40K for a message going through
automatically.

3) When I went to check on the posts requiring moderation, there was a
problem with the server or something. :( (As soon I checked at a time
the server was working properly, Nick had already taken care of it.)

4) And sometimes larger e-mails just take longer to get there -- an
e-mail is broken into a bunch of packets of a certain size, and the
longer the message, the more packets, and you don't get the whole
message until the last packet successfully managed the journey. So
sometimes longer messages take a little longer to get from A to B than
shorter messages.

I almost think the Imp of the Perverse is tweaking the server at
times

 Been reading Stephenson eh?
 How do you like it?

I had a roommate in college who referred to the Imp of the Perverse on a
regular basis, long before I *heard* of Stephenson.

What Stephenson I've read, I've enjoyed very much. I think I had more
brain then, though. (Or at least mothering hormones weren't wreaking
havoc there)

No. I'm going to try to acquire the first one in 8 or 9 days, and maybe
actually start reading it before the end of the year.
