I followed up the thread on the Orca list with a request for USB vendor
and product identifiers. There hasn't been any further discussion so far.

I expect to have access to a recent VarioUltra display within several
weeks, but not on time for the 6.6 release, regrettably. As soon as it
arrives here, I'll test it with whatever the latest code is.

Yes. In a user systemd unit:

Does that Systemd unit contain the list of needed capabilities?

No, but I can add them. I'll go and do the necessary research.

It'd be quickest to just ask the person to look it up on his/her own system.

Yes. In a user systemd unit:

ExecStart=/usr/bin/brltty -b ba -s no -x a2 -N

There's also an interesting discussion currently on the Orca list about a
user's attempt to run BRLTTY with a recent VarioUltra display. I don't know
whether there's an actual bug though. My question is whether the latest model
of VarioUltra (now produced by Visiobraille GmbH following the demise of
Baum) uses the same USB vendor and product ID that BRLTTY recognizes. Based
on what I've read, the new devices have a USB-C interface.

That's entirely possible. Are you able to find out?
Let's see how that conversation develops. I don't have access to
hardware, although VarioUltra is on my list of potential purchases.
