Here is the link to the worksheets for all the Merit Badges. You can purchase the Radio MB pamphlet/book from the Scout Shop in Stafford. Merit Badge Worksheetsusscouts.orgThis is the link to the book. Radio | Boy Scouts of Americascouting.orgK2BSA has a YouTube channel with a PowerPoint somewhere. If you search “BSA radio merit badge” in YT, quite a few videos pop up. if teaching as a class/group, keep it to 10 or less Scouts if trying to get done in 1 day. It is a lot of technical stuff to absorb. Part 9a#6 is talking on air for 10 minutes. That is best done on a different day of teaching a group. As an ASM you know MB are to be done by the Scout on their own time and then meet with you to show, explain, do, etc. Realistically that isn’t how most MBs get done. LOLSHAC just hosted the Radio MB last Saturday. I was there as backup. I will check for other links and resources handed out. Elizabeth J WhiteAssistant Scout MasterTroop 1424texaseb...@att.netSent from my iPhoneOn Apr 17, 2023, at 6:56 PM, Philip Moore via BVARC wrote: BSA Radio Merit Badge,

Hello Folks,

 I am a Assistant
Scout Master for Troop 202 and have recently been registered with the local BSA
district to be a Radio Merit Badge Counselor.  While I have never taught the class, I am
looking forward to it.

I’ve noticed several posts where folks have mentioned slides/
presentations that were passed on give to folks who were teaching a Radio Merit
Badge.  Can someone please send to me the
same info that was given. It would be much appreciated.

In turn; in the future, I could volunteer for BVARCH to
teach the class to another BSA Troop.

Thank you,

I need to find my grandpa’s Seabees records and my dad was in the Merchant

Public libraries have paid subscriptions to many genealogical databases. You
can go in, if open, and ask the reference librarian or sometimes they have
access from their websites too.

That might help you.

[BVARC] help with Morse code for BSA Signs, Signals, and Codes Merit Badge

2020-05-19 Thread Elizabeth White via BVARC
Hello!

My dad was SK K5LBU/Frosty. Anyhow, my son Charlie is in BSA Troop 1424 here
in Missouri City. He and some of the other Scouts are working on the Merit
Badge Signs, Signals, and Code. Part of the MB requires learning about Morse
code and sending/receiving code.

Do the following:

a. Describe what Morse code is and the various means by which it can be
sent. Spell your first name using Morse code. Send or receive a message of
six to 10 words using Morse code.

I am woefully inadequate with Morse. I do have my license (KA2UCA) but don't
use it. I know there are apps for learning Morse code. Is there one that is
better than the other? Our next MB class meeting is sometime in June via
Zoom for now. Anyone interested in Elmering about 4 boys about old school
Morse code?

Let me know! Thanks a bunch.

Hello! My son (K5LBU’s grandson) and several other Scouts in his BSA Troop are
working on their Signs, Signals, and Code Merit Badge which includes Morse
code. Would it be ok to bring the boys to whatever meeting would fit in with
their MB and your presentation? I am talking to the MB Counselor, John Dobias,
about having the boys come out to Field Day in June as well. We are with Troop
1424 meeting at New Hope LC in Missouri City. Or have someone come out to the
next MB class? Let me know and I will talk to John to see what works best for
everyone.

Thank you to all who answered my questions on the email reflectors. Much
appreciated. I wanted to pass along something I recently put together as
president of the Houston ECHO Society. It's a list of possible presentations
for radio club meetings. Maybe you can pass this along to your club officers.
And, you may have seen a presentation that was really memorable that you can
add to the list. I remember K5LBU (SK) slide shows of Botswana and also a fun
session with HT show and tell. Anyway, thanks again and here is the list. Hope
it spurs some ideas. de AG5T

Re: [BVARC] FW: JOTA/JOTI. - SCOTA

2017-08-13 Thread ELIZABETH WHITE via BVARC
Bovay has 2 different camps in it. Camp Tellespen is the Boy Scout side and
Camp McNair is the Cub Scout side. Boy Scouts has a Radio and Signal Merit
Badge. Cub Scouts doesn't really have anything similar BUT if you get Cubs
excited that interest will/should carry over to Boy Scouts.
Cub Scouts is 1st - 5th grade. Boys Scouts is 6th - 12th grade.
BVARC will cover Thunder Wolf District and Brazos District for the most part
There are several Scout leaders in Thunder Wolf who are Hams already. Steve
Whitcomb is one of them. I'm not sure of the others. I've been active in
Scouting (Thunder Wolf district) since Charlie started as a Cub Scout. He is
now in 7th grade and finished his 2nd Class rank in Boy Scouts.
If you need help contacting people in Thunder Wolf district, let me know. Some
of the Troops do participate in JOTA and JOTI yearly.
