2018-01-26 Thread Gabriel Rincon
Hello everyone.

I had a GpS doing the same thing on a epmp 1000 and I replaced the external gps
with another one and it came back up.

Where can I get the firmware fir the GPS?

Hmm. Yeah, I'd open a ticket with Cambium and let them poke around in it
and possibly RMA. If it was a bad receiver flash, maybe they can recover it.

2018-01-26 Thread George Skorup
This looks like the classic issue where the GPS is locked up, which is
obvious because it's not even seeing the receiver version/info.
Power-cycle the radio and see if the GPS comes back. If it does, then it
should say if an update is needed. If it's 3.20_8174, it needs 5.1_8174.
It's just a GlobalTop GNSS and I imagine Cambium has been working with
them to resolve the lockups. In fact, read the 3.5.1 release notes where

Whatever comes with 3.5.1. and that's the problem, it doesnt read any
version. Just says up-to-date.

Re: [Cambium-users] Cambium 900i Performance

2018-01-26 Thread George Skorup
Back when the 900 450 first started shipping, we discovered a couple bad
SMs. Linktests were in the dirt no matter what. I don't remember if the
modulations were always low or not. I'm thinking everything looked
normal which was why we were so confused. But we put another SM in place
and it went from something like 4Mbps aggregate to over 20. And repeated
this at a couple locations. So we set those aside and moved on.

As others have said, what do linktests look like? And what about uplink
and downlink modulations? What are the power levels? Hotter than -40dBm
is too much.

My question would be, why are you using 900 for LOS and/or extremely
short range? I'd put up an ePMP 2k on an omni and call it done.

Also keep in mind that the 900 450 SMs do NOT have the filtering that
the 450i AP does. They're just that, a standard 450 SM. So if you're
running zero guard band on your cluster, a really close SM could
definitely be seeing adjacent channel interference.

We have a problem with 900PMP450i.  We have 4 APs on a tower.  We have
a customer that is very near (1/10 mile) with clean LOS.  But for some
reason, the customer can’t get any speed.   We speculated that perhaps
the SM was seeing too much signal from different APs?   We’ve tried
locking the SM down by frequency to no avail.  Note; all APs on the
tower have the same color code.  Note; this is actually happening with
two different customers each connected to different towers not in
proximity with each other.

Any theories?

We've had issues at sites with high ~900MHz interference. If you are using
the new 2k sectors, you can run the GPS
cable in the channel on the side of the antenna with the puck stored in the
top. This has worked for us.

There was an issue with the previous version of GPS antennas, that came with
early EPMP1000's.  If the GPS antennas you are using are the ones that came
with an E2K then you should have the newer model though.  In any case way back
when there was an issue that the old antennas had in high noise environments.
We experienced that first hand.  We haven't see the issue since replacing the
GPS antennas though.  I think we still have the holdover timer set pretty high
though which might help you in a pinch until a real resolution is found.

sometimes.  In the end, the solution at each of these
sites was to point the GPS puck straight up.  Our best
guess was that there was something overloading the GPS

pointing them up, while not giving them the best signal,
minimized terrestrial interference.  At least that's our

I found an old graph from one of our tickets with Cambium.  For the

it was firmware, or a bad GPS receiver, or puck, etc. and went
down every road we could think of, because it seemed like it had
to be one of those.  Out of the 4-5 sites we had with this

up, and I think all of them were in close proximity to a cell tower.

I recall that the newer pucks helped some, but weren't the final fix.
And yes, we set the holdover to 5 minutes now, so thanks for bringing
that up.

antennas had in high noise environments.  We experienced that first
hand.  We haven't see the issue since replacing the GPS antennas
though.  I think we still have the holdover timer set pretty high
though which might help you in a pinch until a real resolution is found.

Re: [Cambium-users] ePMP 2000 GPS not working after firmware upgrade

2018-01-26 Thread Chadwick Wachs
We fought this for months with a couple ePMP 1000 APs. We changed out
pucks, tried GLONASS vs old style pucks, changed APs, tried firmware,
etc. Nothing solved it until we shielded the cable between the puck and
the AP. Once we put that in a conduit (for as far as we could) the
problem you describe stopped. One of these was on our tower with lots
of FM, AM, UHF. We chocked that up to RF interference (our Mimosa B5
can't grab GPS either). The other AP was on a mini-pop on a residential
house with no other RF interference around that we could discover. But,
as soon as both APs had their GPS cables shielded, problem never returned.

[Cambium-users] Cambium 900i Performance

2018-01-26 Thread Phil Lambert
We have a problem with 900PMP450i. We have 4 APs on a tower. We have a
customer that is very near (1/10 mile) with clean LOS. But for some reason,
the customer can't get any speed. We speculated that perhaps the SM was
seeing too much signal from different APs? We've tried locking the SM down by
frequency to no avail. Note; all APs on the tower have the same color code.
Note; this is actually happening with two different customers each connected to
different towers not in proximity with each other.

Any theories?
