[Cameramakers] Enlarger Transformers

I am
working on building/restoring a large format enlarger and have run into a
question on the transformer for the light.

Do I
need anything special? Or will any transformer of the right voltage (with
support for the watts) work?

regards
Dave

To my understanding you ideally want a
"constant voltage transformer".. I have several and they seem to
bequite large for thier wattage output , but that would prevent any
voltage spikes , or low voltage codition to help keep the light on a very
level output..

How big is your enlarger?

For BW work, small fluctuations in color temperature and
output are tolerable, so most supplies with adequate power
will work. However, do not exceed the maximum voltage
recommendation for the bulb(s), and actually measure the
voltage when connected to the bulb(s) or a 100 W household
lamp as a load.

For color work, you will have fewer problems with a regulated
power supply which will avoid color shifts during peak demand.
