Re: [cayugabirds-l] Treman Marina Ospreys

2012-08-13 Thread nutter.dave
Today (13 August) at Stewart Park (I forget what time that brief taxi break was) I saw 2 OSPREYS flying over the water. I think at least one was an adult, but I don't know about the other.  This evening around 8:30pm a single adult OSPREY sat for a few minutes on one of the perches of the nest platform at Treman Marine Park before flying toward Stewart Park, leaving the platform empty as it had been when I arrived. The vegetation mat was crawling with seemingly the same shorebirds as yesterday, possibly with increased numbers, but I was too late this evening to see them well, even with the scope. I counted 50 CASPIAN TERNS on the red lighthouse breakwater.--Dave NutterOn Aug 13, 2012, at 04:30 AM, nutter.d...@me.com wrote:That is, zero OSPREYS around Treman Marine Park at dusk, but there were: 2 HOODED MERGANSERS1 GREEN HERON2 KILLDEER, 6 SPOTTED SANDPIPERS, 7 LEAST SANDPIPERS, 1 SEMIPALMATED SANDPIPER, 27 CASPIAN TERNS, The many swallows over the Inlet and the lake earlier in the day seemed to be majority BANK SWALLOWS and the rest BARN SWALLOWS.  I saw 2 YELLOW WARBLERS together in a Willow along Jetty Woods. [cayugabirds-l] Caspian Terns / Screech Owl

2012-08-13 Thread Annette Nadeau
On a walk around the pond at around noon here at Hospicare, I heard and then
saw two CASPIAN TERNS, an adult and a juvenile, both vocalizing. They were
circling higher and higher, calling, heading northward toward the lake.

Also, this past Saturday night at about 9 o'clock, a SCREECH OWL sang its
monotonic trill in my yard in Brooktondale.
