Closer view from Poplar Ridge just as it descends, not the greatest spot to

[cayugabirds-l] Mt Pleasant Snow Buntings songsters!

2014-01-05 Thread Marie P. Read
HI all,

In addition to the balmy southerly breeze, the delights of my walk up Mt
Pleasant Rd this morning (10:15 - 11:15 or so) included:

A flock of 35-40 Snow Buntings
A singing White-breasted Nuthatch
A singing Black-capped Chickadee

Ah, spring!

[cayugabirds-l] longspurs, shrike

2014-01-05 Thread Susan Fast
I stopped at a traditional field bird spot (intersection of Salt, W.
Malloryville, and Peruville Rds.) and found 2 LAPLAND LONGSPURS in among
approx. 75 each HORNED LARKS and SNOW BUNTINGS. Viewing was not easy.

Also saw a N. SHRIKE at a traditional spot for them of Ellis Hollow Creek
and Turkey Hill Rds.

Re: [cayugabirds-l] longspurs, shrike

2014-01-05 Thread Gary Kohlenberg
I was wondering who's tracks I followed. The same mix of winter field birds
were on Cornell Lane in Dryden with viewing somewhat easier. There was also a
nice flock of Turkey's (21) and a dark phase Rough-legged Hawk.

[cayugabirds-l] Another shrike, etc

2014-01-05 Thread Susan Fast
Late afternoon, I went trolling for owls. I, too, found a dark phase
ROUGH-LEGGED HAWK in a tree top along Creamery Rd., outside of Slaterville.
Then at the crest of Hart Rd., Town of Dryden, an adult NORTHERN SHRIKE was
hunting in the hedgerow there, at 1630h. No owls.
