[cayugabirds-l] Mourning Warbler - Grisamore Farms in Locke
If you're going berry picking at Grisamore Farms this weekend, keep your ears open: Brad Walker and I heard a Mourning Warbler singing multiple times from the wet woods bordering the strawberry patch this morning. [cayugabirds-l] Falconry Help requested
Hi, I'm writing for a friend who is working with Cornell's Adult University (CAU) Youth Program this summer. Their Explorers group is studying Medieval History. The Explorers Camp is for children ages 7-8. Each camp group meets for one week. Heidi is looking for a falconer to give a brief demo and talk and perhaps answer a few questions about falconry. The whole session would last no more than an hour. Ideally this would be on a Tuesday or Thursday morning once a week for 4 weeks in July. (It wouldn't have to be the same person for all 4 weeks if that's too much of a commitment. It could be a cooperative effort :) Any questions or ideas? Please contact Heidi directly at h...@cornell.edu Thanks, Laurie -- Cayugabirds-L List Info: http://www.NortheastBirding.com/CayugabirdsWELCOME http://www.NortheastBirding.com/CayugabirdsRULES http://www.NortheastBirding.com/CayugabirdsSubscribeConfigurationLeave.htm ARCHIVES: 1) http://www.mail-archive.com/cayugabirds-l@cornell.edu/maillist.html 2) http://www.surfbirds.com/birdingmail/Group/Cayugabirds 3) http://birdingonthe.net/mailinglists/CAYU.html Please submit your observations to eBird: http://ebird.org/content/ebird/ --
[cayugabirds-l] Monk Parakeets
Not present for the many waiting birders! It is 1:30 so maybe they are sleeping, or have flown a long distance. I have been here over an hour. BTW the shed will not be demolished till Fall. However, the farmers would try to relocate the birds if they catch them. They have a bird cage in the shed actually saw the parakeets in it. Guess the people weren't near enuf to shut the cage door. [cayugabirds-l] Sapsucker Woods: Barred Owls, odd vireo
Highlights from a lunchtime walk around the pond at Sapsucker Woods today included two YELLOW-THROATED VIREOS, one singing a normal song from across the pond (perhaps near the southwest corner), and one singing a spot-on Blue-headed Vireo song along the Wilson Trail North. This latter was bizarre, not just a not-very-burry Yellow-throated but a really close to perfect Blue-headed, but I watched it sing and it was unquestionably a Yellow-throated. The second highlight was at least two begging juvenile BARRED OWLS and one or two adults nearby along the trail on the west side of Sapsucker Woods just a bit north of the trailheads along the road. The juveniles were giving their raspy, rising hiss begging calls and one of the adults would give a two-note hoot occasionally. I think Sean Scanlon's bird walk saw these guys earlier today, but this is the first I have seen of them this summer. I didn't get a great look at the juveniles but they looked pretty old, flying around competently and only downy around the fringes. -- Jay McGowan Macaulay Library Cornell Lab of Ornithology jw...@cornell.edu -- Cayugabirds-L List Info: http://www.NortheastBirding.com/CayugabirdsWELCOME http://www.NortheastBirding.com/CayugabirdsRULES http://www.NortheastBirding.com/CayugabirdsSubscribeConfigurationLeave.htm ARCHIVES: 1) http://www.mail-archive.com/cayugabirds-l@cornell.edu/maillist.html 2) http://www.surfbirds.com/birdingmail/Group/Cayugabirds 3) http://birdingonthe.net/mailinglists/CAYU.html Please submit your observations to eBird: http://ebird.org/content/ebird/ --
[cayugabirds-l] Knox-Marcellus Marsh from East Road PECTORAL SANDPIPER, GREATER YELLOWLEGS
Got here around 130 pm and as expected viewing conditions are brutal. First southbound shorebirds present. or left over spring migrants? Had 5 GREATER YELLOWLEGS, 2 PECTORAL SANSPIPERS. The birds are in and out of the weeds by the water's edge close to where a few weeks go there were many peeps, plovers etc. In addition, there is a SNOW GOOSE that does not appear injured as it was flying at times. Also present are 3 COMMON TERNS among 21 CASPAIN TERNS and 2 RING BILLED GULLS. There is at least 19 GREAT EGRETS. Also 1 NORTHERN SHOVELOR, many GREEN WINGED TEALS. I plan on returning later before I head home for better lighting. -- Cayugabirds-L List Info: http://www.NortheastBirding.com/CayugabirdsWELCOME http://www.NortheastBirding.com/CayugabirdsRULES http://www.NortheastBirding.com/CayugabirdsSubscribeConfigurationLeave.htm ARCHIVES: 1) http://www.mail-archive.com/cayugabirds-l@cornell.edu/maillist.html 2) http://www.surfbirds.com/birdingmail/Group/Cayugabirds 3) http://birdingonthe.net/mailinglists/CAYU.html Please submit your observations to eBird: http://ebird.org/content/ebird/ --
[cayugabirds-l] K M Marsh Evening light - EURASIAN WIGEON
Gorgeous EURASIAN WIGEON in fall plumage with nice rufous head present with AMERICAN WIGEONS. Also SANDHILL CRANE closer to east road. Non breeding plumage BLACK TERN which was a surprise. Also had 1 non breeder on wildlife drive amid many adults. Refound 2 PECTORAL SANDPIPERS with much better views. Birds eventually flew and are tucked away out of view now behind some weeds. Maybe the view would be better from Towpath rd if still present in morning? Refound 2 GREATER YELLOWLEGS as well. CASPIAN TERNS COMMON TERNS and SNOW GOOSE all still present. Plenty of GREAT EGRETS too. [cayugabirds-l] Worm-eating Warbler
I know it is getting a bit late, but I finally have the time to look for the Worm-eating Warbler. My understanding from Cayugabird posts is that its at Lindsay-Parsons. But when I print out a map of that preserve, I see blue, red and yellow trails but no mention of the Pinnacles Trail as accessed from Bald Hill Road, turning N where it meets the ridge as others have posted. Can anyone point me in the right direction? I post on Genesee Birds and report most of my NY sightings to ebird.
