Montezuma National Wildlife Refuge (MNWR) and Montezuma Wetlands Complex (MWC)






     11/4: A RED--SHOULDERED HAWK was seen on Towpath Road at Knox-Marsellus 
Marsh.

     11/5: An AMERICAN BITTERN was again seen on the Wildlife Drive 

     11/6: A COMMON GALLINULE was still being seen on the Wildlife Drive. A 
CHIPPING SPARROW was seen at East Road. 126 TUNDRA SWANS were seen in the 
flooded impoundments at Armitage Road.

     11/10: 124 SANDHILL CRANES were seen at Knox-Marsellus Marsh.

     11/11: A late EASTERN MEADOWLARK was seen along the Wildlife Drive.







Cayuga County






     A PARASITIC JAEGER was seen at West Barrier Bar Park in Fair Haven.







Onondaga County






     11/4: 4 YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLERS were seen at 3 Rivers WMA north of 
Baldswinsville.

     11/5: A late HERMIT THRUSH was seen on Jamesville Ave in Syracuse.

     11/7: A late BLUE-HEADED VIREO was seen at 3 Rivers WMA. 

     11/8: A VESPER SPARROW was seen at a residence north of Liverpool.

     11/9: A BLUE-HEADED VIREO was seen in the Raddison area in Baldwinsville.

     11/10: A NORTHERN SHRIKE was seen near Rt.370 in Plainville.

     11/11: A late CHIPPING SPARROW was seen on  Comstock Road in Syracuse. A 
LAPLAND LONGSPUR and a PEREGRINE FALCON were seen on Hoag Road south of 
Baldwinsville.







Oswego County






     11/6: 2 GOLDEN EAGLES were seen in flight from a yard in Constantia. A 
YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLER was seen in the area also. A LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULL was 
seen from the overlook at Derby Hill. A BLACK SCOTER and a SURF SCOTER were 
seen on Oneida Lake at Phillips Point.

     11/9: 2 VESPER SPARROWS were seen near Hayes Road in West Monroe.

     11/10: 3 VESPER SPARROWS were seen on Bishop Road north of Pulaski. A 
CACKLING GOOSE was seen on Lake Ontario at Selkirk Shores State Park.

     11/11: 2 RED-NECKED GREBES were seen on Lake Ontario in Oswego near Fred 
Haynes Road.







Madison County






     11/8: A late OSPREY was seen near Woodman Pond north of Hamilton.

     11/9: 3 GREATER WHITE-FRONTED GEESE were seen on Woodman Pond.

     11/11: A NORTHERN SHRIKE was seen on Eaton Brook Road east of Erieville.







Oneida County






     11/9: A NORTHERN SHRIKE was seen near Brown Tract Road near Forestport.

     11/11: 2 SURF SCOTERS were seen on Oneida Lake at North Bay from Lakeshore 
Road.

I also saw a flock of ~80 waxwings on the 300 block of Second st this past
weekend.

~80 CEDAR WAXWINGS w/~20 AMER ROBINS feeding on blue cedar berries in cedar 
trees at 311 Lansing Station Road.

Yesterday I saw several flocks of Cedar waxwings and Robins at road above 
Milliken station point and at nut Ridge Road in North Lansing.

[cayugabirds-l] Cartoon on big bird loss

Unless you knew about the news headlines for the 29% decrease in birds since 
1970, you would probably not “get” the point of the “between friends” cartoon 
on the comics page of today’s Ithaca journal.

Woman office worker berating a fellow office worker because he’s eating an egg 
salad sandwich (with little skulls coming out of it) after she reads something 
(not shown) on her computer screen.

Reminds me of a fun time my late sister and I had in Algonquin provincial park, 
Ontario about 5 or 6 years ago when we did a Taste Test for Canada (gray) jays.

The lodge had packed us egg salad sandwiches for lunch, so we sat in the woods 
feeding friendly Jays either unsalted peanuts or pieces of egg salad from our 
hands. (At same time so they had a choice).

 all three of the test subjects in this study preferred the egg salad to the 
peanuts!
