[cayugabirds-l] TODAY: POP UP BINOCULAR DEMO @ Lab of Ornithology

2023-05-12 Thread Marc Devokaitis
>From 1:00p - 3:00p today I'll be at the Visitor Center (out on the portico)
demoing a wide variety of new 8x32 binoculars, and asking for help in
comparing the different models for an upcoming review. Light refreshments
provided, while supplies last!

If you are someone looking for a budget friendly, smaller, lighter pair
that is also a very good all around binocular, you should swing by and
check some of these out -- will be doing a few more of these in the weeks
to come.

Maybe that Golden-winged Warbler will swing by too!

[cayugabirds-l] New yard birds

2023-05-12 Thread Alyssa Johnson
This is from Trumansburg this morning:

Connecticut warbler
Great crested Flycatcher
Nashville warbler
Blackpoll warbler
Hermit thrush
Wood thrush
Rose-breaded Grosbeak
Tennessee Warbler
Red-eyed Vireo
Blue-headed Vireo
Common Yellowthroat

Also heard American toads calling from the pool last night! We’re opening
it this weekend so I’ll have to do some relocation to the pond.

[cayugabirds-l] Trillium woods and birds

2023-05-12 Thread anneb . clark
The patch of woods at the corner of Ed Hill Rd and Hile School rd is
increasingly full of returned birds. Gr crested flycatcher, wood thrush C
yellowthroat etc and just now Merlin claimed repeated Hooded Warbler. I did not
“Process” the last but I would not pick up
On fainter calls or song. Probably worth
A stop and gorgeous with all the trillium.

I do not own this woods and don’t think the current owners like walkers going
inside. But edges are against the roads.

[cayugabirds-l] Refuge shorebirds

2023-05-12 Thread Peter Saracino
Refuge Visitor Center pool is loaded with shorebirds this morning as the
water level lowers. Quick glance before our survey has both flavors of
yellowlegs, lots of least and semipalmated sandpipers, semipalmated
plovers, dunlin, solitary sandpipers and..who knows what else. We'll
survey it in a bit.
The warblers can wait!! (Smile)
