[cayugabirds-l] Blackpoll
Heard a Blackpoll Warbler at 4-H Acres today around noon, adding to the chorus of resident redstart, chestnut-sided, yellowthroat, scarlet tanager, wood thrush, baltimore oriole, and chipping sparrow. Also a one-time cackling of a cuckoo, yellow-billed, I think. Tons of spongy moth caterpillars everywhere. [cayugabirds-l] Blackpoll, N Parula, Blackburnian +++ Hawthorn Orchard -- May 10, 2015
3 of us were very surprised to clearly see a male Blackpoll warbler. Lots of Bay-breasted including females. Male and female Blackburnian and more(see list) The rest is on list but I think Chris T-H mentioned a Cape May that we missed. We started at path by softball field where you step over a fallen wire fence. The first 150 yards were crawling with birds. We didn't go very far as my mother had a tight Mom's day schedule so there is likely much more to see. [cayugabirds-l] Blackpoll!?!
Backlit and high in the low predawn light, but I'm pretty sure I saw the unmistakeable half-and-half facial pattern on a blackpoll warbler, hung out briefly with a btgreen and a third bird I couldn't get on. [cayugabirds-l] Blackpoll Warbler
We banded a young blackpoll yesterday. Earliest date in several years. I'm curious as to what ID clues people are using to call empis in tree tops by species? In the hand and without vocalization, these are highly variable in plumage at this time of year and tough to split out even with several measurements. A Yellow-bellied we banded the other day was quite drab and could easily have been called something else strictly by eye. [cayugabirds-l] Blackpoll Warbler
We banded our first true migrant, a young Blackpoll, on 01 Sep. Seems very early as it is usually one of the last migrant warblers caught here. I wonder if the storm may have pushed it down from the ADKs. [cayugabirds-l] Blackpoll Stewart Park
Sorry for the late post, but at 7:45 this morning there was a singing male BLACKPOLL WARBLER at the swan pen at Stewart Park, Ithaca. Not sure if I'd seen that one posted. There also was a BLUE-GRAY GNATCATCHER putting the finishing touches ia a nest in an overhanging willow.
